Registry Entries

Could someone tell me who should be listed in my Registry Users or Groups? The following users/groups are listed - myself, "Administrator", "RESTRICTED". "CREATOR OWNER", "SYSTEM", "Everyone", and "Poweruser".

Who are these parties and how did they get there? Some have Permissions on all keys, others only certain keys.

If someone shouldn't be there, how do I get rid of them?

 

those are normal. afaik "SYSTEM" is the OS itself and the others are types of user accounts. Im not sure of "CREATOR OWNER" tho.

 

What is the impact of removing "CREATOR OWNER"?

I've had difficulty replacing some registry keys and thought the user settings might have something to do with it.

The 'creator owner' is the user/process/system who created the key/value. I don't anything bad will happen if you remove it,as the creator is still listed as one of the others (user/system),but don't quote me on it.

 

Perhaps before you remove that account we could look at these registry keys you are having problems replacing.

You've been assisting me with another issue concerning Spywareblaster and unprotected Cookies. Are those problems related in any way with Users/Groups having access to the Registry?

I'll not bounce back and forth to the Spywareblaster thread until We\You figure out this possible registry problem.

I will ask you do that one thing I ask for in the Spywareblaster thread concerning the merge of the history.reg file and Please report back in this thread.

What did you see when you opened up Internet Explorer to the Tools\Internet Options\Privacy tab....down in the bottom right Web Sites area select Edit. Do you have a long list of Managed Web sites: ??

 

There is no "Edit" option in the Privacy tab, however, my Settings are "Custom". Under "Advanced", I've overwritten automatic cookie handling to Accept First Party Cookies and Block Third Party Cookies.

Under "Sites"/Managed Web Sites" is a list of "Always Block" sites that are the ones Spywareblaster is unable to protect against.

In reference to my comment in the other thread, history.reg has a list of sites that include some of the unprotected 209, but it does not not include all of the sites in history.reg. For example, torc.com is in the history file, it is also on my list to block, but is not one of the 209. I hope this makes sense.

 

Actually that has yet to be proven but that's an issue that needs to remain in your Spywareblaster thread. This quick request was an attempt to see if we could even write to the registry given your comment about "Users/Groups having access to the Registry".

What other programs if any are you seeing problems with that are possibly being effected by Users and registry access ?

What causes you to think you have registry access problems ?

 

I use Registry First Aid to clean the registry, which does not always work. I'm working with their support group to hopefully resolve that issue.
