I do not think that a 'snapshot' is actually taken by SU. Instead, what the user writes onto the hard drive is saved into the 'space' handled by SU. Such 'space' is erased each time the computer is rebooted, so there is no modification to the hard drive unless the user explicitly 'commit' it. This is different from how VMware works.

"The certificate number or coupon code entered is not valid."

Maybe it expired? I tried it several times.

I'm a Deep Freeze user but thought I would try ShadowSurfer on another computer. Wish I could get in on the free deal!

I just tried, and was successful ... enter the coupon on the first page, then on the payment page, choose call me. :)

For anyone who may be under the wrong impression; ShadowSurfer is the free offer, which is different than ShadowUser in many ways, although offering simular functionality.

Very, very good Dog! I had tried it as well and it didn't work until your little workaround. I hope the program is easier to use and understand than their order and download directions! I want to try it on my laptop. I have used Deep Freeze forever on my desktop. I'm looking forward to giving it a test drive on the laptop! Thanks Dog!! :)

@ Dog and AJohn: Thanks, didn't think to choose "call me" :)

Btw, what made me say I thought it was 1 bought,1 free, is that when you start with the order, there are 2 items in the basket, unless you remove one o_O .

    Cheers,
    nicM

Suppose you realize hours or days later, that something you committed was a bad mistake - can you then safely uncommit it?

With ShadowSurfer, is it possible to have it run on one user account that it would always be active with, but that account could be logged out of and a different account would be running normally?

I'm so disappointed. The ShadowStor website said the ShadowSurfer was a free license when we were all downloading it back on Christmas. I just got around to installing it on my laptop and it says "15 Day Trial Version"....Those of you who downloaded it then (like I did), weren't you under the assumption it was a free standard license?

On edit: It works fine. The download WAS of the trial version, but the activation code was sent via email.
Fully registered! A $30 Christmas present!

I had to switch from Deep Freeze to Shadow Surfer, because tech support for Deep Freeze said, don’t use it on nforce4 chipset motherboards. I liked the password protection on Deep Freeze. I don’t care for the wallpaper Shadow user puts on you’re PC. Either one will get the job done. I haven’t figured out how to install software for testing, that requires a reboot with either one.

Often, the software doesn't really require a reboot. For many test installations, I have got by by checking to see if the new software has installed any new services. If it has then I start the service. Then I check if it has created startup entries. If it has then I manually run the startup entries. In most cases this has worked.

You can also check your device manager and view>show hidden devices. You can then start any drivers that the software has installed. I only just found out about this one. I guess this would need to be done prior to the starting the service. This last one may explain the couple of programs that wouldn't work for me.

The only other one I couldn't get around was anti-executable by Faronics.

Shadow User are good:D , i have test it in my pc, the best part is, that its not difficult to use, also we can make the systray icon dissapear so nobody knows that the pc is protected by SU. The less who know about SU, the better. What happn if scurty software having to much publicity?(news-tvs-forums-etc), some people will try to cracked it:'( , for examples:Deepfreeze and Emiliano Scavuzzo. Deepfreeze was the best img software;) , anyway i dont know about their lates version. Have they handle their problem yeto_O

About shadowusers wallpapper:isay: , you can change it by replacing the JPG file in shadowuser DEFAULT folder, check it!, there's a JPG file in this folder.

Remember to use the same name:ninja: for JPG file that you have put there to replace the default one....:)

The 'Options' drop box cannot be accessed from my trial version of ShadowUser. How can get access to the drop box to change Options? Need to access the General and Administration tabs. I'm using a limited user account.

    Thanks IA

When you are in shadow mode, you cannot access Options. Simply reboot with ShadowSurfer deactivated to make changes.
