    Hi, all

I did a search and there is only one thread in the last three years :- Here which I could not post in as it is to old.[like me  ]

My firewall is usually [I have life time License] OutPost but it look to be going the same way as ZAP [Big, Fat and wants to phone home about everything]

So have just started using Look 'n' Stop and it ask if dcsw2.dll can started by my Browser and they will not work [have no access if I block it].

This .dll is something to do with a DCS Product most likely PE from my search here and on Google, I have PE, PG, and WG installed, which of them stops access, and why does it stop access if blocked or should I say why does it need to be started by the Browser.

Thank you to all in advance for any help or advice.

    Take Care,
    TheQuest

You are right, dcsw2.dll is used by port explorer to monitor TCP & UDP connections made by your browser

    Hi, MickeyTheMan

Thank you very much for your quick reply.

That was the helpfull information I needed, so now I can turn off logging and not have to post the log over on the LnS forum.

    Thanks very much once again.

    Hi, all

I would still like to know why my browser or any program that need access that I have allowed should need this Port Explorer dcsw2.dll to be able to gain access to the internet, even when PE as not been started by me.

    Hi there!
The .dll is always running, what you start manually is just the GUI to see it all displayed and and with your tools.
So the message that a browser should start the dll is not correct, it should more be whether the dll is granted access to internet or thing like that. Same with your other programs. I suppose you can set some rules for your programs so it's not asked again each time.

    Hi, Jooske

Thank you very much for replying Jooske.

That is what I wanted to know.
My boo, in making you think it is asking for access for everytime a progarm needed access.

I was meaning it was needed to have access or a progam [anyone of them, as I tried one at a time with it blocked] could not gain access without the .dll having been given the allow rule.

Thank once again for your reply.

Just to elaborate on the excellent info that Jooske has already provided, dcsws2.dll is what is known as a Layered Service Provider - an external network-based component of Port Explorer which Port Explorer uses when it's running. It's dcsws2.dll that actually allows you to use Port Explorer to "packet-sniff" any individual socket or process. :)
