PC World didn't see fit to include NOD32

Just got my latest March version of PC World where they reviewed anti-virus programs. They reviewed ten different programs but NOD wasn't one of them. I wonder what their criteria is for the virus programs picked to review. Is NOD still a cult like anti-virus program with a very small market share? Incidently, they picked Bit Defender as number one.

You are talking about a computer magazine . lol . I have yet to find one worth talking about when it comes to their tests and opinions . Well , I know a couple that give good advice but , do not actually do tests and make opinions from tests . Computer magazines that do this are really hurting people .
Some good advice would be , get over it . It makes no difference that NOD was not included . It is a joke .

 

Exactly, even though I know nothing about computers or security really, I know a lot more than these pc magazines. LOL, any one of us here could do a better job writing the article. LOL LOL

 

I'll have to agree with the above posts. I just ignore those magazine tests as I see them as quite useless & biased to the limit.

You obviously know enough to stay clear of the mags . That tells me you are wayyyyy ahead of many others when it comes to computer security .

 

There's nothing wrong with looking at computer magazines, so long as you know how seriously to take them. I read the magazines for entertainment; nothing more.

It's all about money. I work for a vendor of (non-security) software, and we're always seeing the deeper-pocket competitors getting the limelight, while we never get a mention. It can be truly aggravating, especially since we're better.

Speaking of NOD32 in magazines, it was mentioned in the new PC Magazine. Oddly enough, though, it was mentioned in a round-up of anti-spyware applications:

I just received the newest issue of pc world.They reviewed a bunch of antivirus that "AV comparatives" tested for them.For some unknown reason the greatest was not included.NOD32.I demand they answer to this injustice.

What??!?! av-comparatives did not test anything for PC world afaik.

i also find that its outrageous as well...however, most big PC magazines are a bit unfair for selection and tend to only list the popular ones that are relatively easy to use. i think most can agree that NOD32 is a bit hard to setup, and an average computer user would probably struggle a bit. also, NOD32 is not as well known by the common public--only names such as Norton and Mcaffee stand out quite a bit.

I disagree. The only extra input it needs over some other AV products is typing in the username and password for updates.

The control center may "look" daunting to some...with all these "advanced" features and settings right there...instead of hidden under some bland interface. Nice for power users and those who like to roll up their sleeves and fiddle with stuff. But again, you don't have to actually adjust anything if you don't want to, default settings are fine, on those settings it will "hold the hand" of novice users just fine if it catches anything.

I totally agree with this. You don't have to fiddle with NOD32 at all if you don't want to, and it will still offer outstanding protection. The default installation is outstanding for most users, IMO.

Yes, they really need to give AVexpert tags to people who 'know' the following pieces of info. LOL

1. NOD has the best heuristics
2. KAV has the best signatures
3. AV comparitive is the best AV test, all are tests are doubtful at best.
4. Antivir is probably the best at detection for free AVs. Avast is next, AVG is worthless
5. Besides those mentioned Bitdefender is also very good.

Extra credit

1. Knowing the difference between zoo and in the wild
2. knowing Number of signatures doesn't matter
3. Knowing (roughly) what packers are (and the difference between them and archives) and being able to name some
4. Being able to name all the various certifications and major test sites

Extra Extra credit

1. Having your own malware collection
2. Telling everyone Norton sucks

Did I miss out anything?

To be frank, I'm not saying the statements above are true, it's just what people on this forum say and mostly believe, and clearly some of it is probably subjective opinion, (eg NOD forum here biases members to favour NOD...

 

You can add this too.

6. DrWeb is the second best against about a couple of days old all kind of nasties just after Kaspersky engined av:s and the old good doctor also has the second best update frequency with almost none impact to the CPU!

yes I was wrong,I thought pc world used av-comparatives for the artical but it was actually av-test.Sorry for the mixup.Still why no Nod32.I know Nod may not be as well know as the others but when you are the best I guess word of mouth will be good enough.
