i feel that someone is stealing my bandwidth.plz help.how can i find out and any tools to keep me safe from future threats?

 

What makes you feel that?

If it is via a wireless access point or router, the administrative screens of the router should indicate attached devices if the intruder is currently associated. Depending on the system, you may or may not be able to get a history of associated clients.

You should be able to manage access from the router.

That can happen for a variety of reasons without anyone stealing it.

Do you have a wireless router? A wireless access point? Anything of that type? If you want help, anyone reading this needs details.

It could be load on your local segment (speeds are usually positioned as up to...), poor signal quality, a whole host of possible causes.

For someone to pull your bandwidth, they have to be able to pull it on your IP, which generally means climbing onto your wireless (although I supposed an industrious user could lay some cable into your living area...). Now, you haven't provided any of the requested information (do you run wireless? have an unused wireless unit?) or said that it doesn't apply. So I'm going to assume it doesn't apply. That probably means either you have a poor connection right now or the local load has increased and you may have been spoiled by past behavior. For severe degradation, I would contact my provider. Finally, when you say the speed is 20 or 6-7 kb, I really have not idea what you're saying since kb isn't a speed (and I sure hope is isn't kbps)...

i have a cable connection. using a lan card and im supposed to get 20 kbps as download speed but for 2 days im only gettin 6-7 kbps when im supposed to get 20 kbps

 

You could try using the free version of Netlimiter to determine what is using your bandwidth >

Scroll down the page, and I think its the third one down 'Netlimiter 2 Moniter'.

But like Blue said it could be any number of reasons,
