I have a choice to make

I have a choice to make. My AV licence is going to expire soon and I need advice. I don't like ESET's attitude regarding version 3, so I don't think I'm going to reup with them. Right now I'm thinking of either VBA32 or KAV 6. Any opinions on which one I should choose?

 

KAV 6 of course. KAV = King of Anti-Viruses.

 

Judging by your prev. posts, you pretty much selected KAV-6 by yourself.

Wow. Well if you've really paid attention to my posts, as you say you have, then you'd know I used to use, and have a valid licence for VBA32. I think that a lot. I feel confortable with that but the question of effectivness comes into play. There are no actual tests. That's why I need opinions.

 

KAV will be a good choice and when KAV 2006 is released you will not be charged to upgrade to the new version.
Both av's are top notch so trial and make your decision based on their performance on you comp.

So what about newer versions?
Pay for a 3 year license and you still have to purchase a 2007/2008/2009 version.. Good deal... For Kaspersky.

 

AFAIK KAV upgrades are free for the duration of the license. Where is it mentioned that upgrades are not free?

 

I'm not so sure that question can be answered only because no one has thought that far into the future. However the way I have had it explained to me at the Kaspersky forum is that, as was stated earlier, I will not be charged the upgrade. Wether this is for this one or all future upfrades I don't know. I imagine thought that it's all but you might want to ask Kaspersky.

 

Do you have information that proves VBA32 to be a top-notch AV? I hope so. I would like to see results because I very much like it.

That's the first AV company besides Eset that I've heard about doing this.

Oh actually many companies offer free upgrades....

- Trend Micro (at least for now, anyone can upgrade their 2004 version and up to the latest for free)
- H+BEDV
- BitDefender
- BullGuard
- Dr.Web/VirusChaser
- GDATA software
- F-Prot
- Zone Labs (I think)

There may be more too. Some companies that don't give free upgrades are:

- Steganos
- Symantec (not yet at least)
- McAfee
- Panda (it seems that now if you renew your license you get the new version free)

Probably because I had Panda prior to NOD32.

They should higlight the free upgrades more if you ask me.
The one thing that I truly hate is to buy a 3-year license, and still have to purchase new versions. Eset were the first company that I found which didn't use this stupid policy.

The more the merrier really.

 

I've had KAV for many years now and you buy a one year license or 2 year license and that license key works on any version, new or old for the duration of your key.
Back in 1998 I bought a Kav license from avp.ch which cost me $24.95 and was good for 5 years. They stopped doing that when Kav became more popular, now it's a yearly renewal which is good for any version that is out.

 

A little research will help separate fact from fiction. The KAV version update has been posted many times by don pelotas and others in this forum.

Well l I guess I am going to extend my NOD subscription. I was quite angry at Eset yesterday because the lack of version three information; I had it pointed out to me that the fear of not knowing as well as impatience are American qualities. Maybe I should be quitely patient. But I did purchase KAV 6 from newegg (and I do have valid VBA32 licence) but NOD it is the winner. My dad is getting a new laptop and he'll need an AV, so here can use KAV; he'll like that especially since I'm not recomeding a firewall (LNS) and KAV 6 has process protection, thread injection protection and registry protection already. Here's hoping NOD32 v3 does as well. Thanks everyone.

Just to be clear, any Kaspersky user with a valid license can use any version he or she wishes, you're buying a 1 or 2 year subscription, so if you buy a key for 5.0 Personal, you can use 3.5, 4.0, 4.5, 5.0 of the home products or 6.0 when it arrives (pre-release candidate was released today, which may become the official release candidate sometime next week).

This has been the policy in the years i have used Kaspersky.

 

And 7.0 also then? I don't wanna buy the 5.0 version and downgrade to 3.5'ish

 

But, 3.5 would be an upgrade for you.............
