Pings in games

lt's probally been answered before(l did a quick search but couldn't find anything).
Does having NOD32 on whilst playing online games,mainly FPS games,slow the ping speed at all.
l've been turning it off as l thought that it might,as it has to analyze anything that you download,am l correct?

Hm well I've certainly never done any formal investigation into this but I am a very avid gamer and have used NOD for a few years now. I have not had any (noticeable anyway) slowdown when hosting Operation Flashpoint, Call of Duty, Battlefield 1942 & Vietnam, Delta Force Blackhawk Down, C&C Generals/Zero Hour, and several others. I have also played them on other people's servers and really remain one of the better connected, even doing very well on Euro servers while residing here in the southern US.

 

i have not noticed any slowdown but i also have not tried with nod32 off and i set all my programs to compatibility mode anyways.

 

Nor have I. And i play allot of onine games....

i will say any other AV proggies i tried has had a impact on games...

And my system isnt weak.....

 

My ping is really low (amongst the lowest) whenever I play online.
What difference do you notice yourself when you play with NOD on and off?

 

Yes, mainly Steam too.

 

Very hardcore online gamer here....since switching to NOD32 quite a while ago, it's the first antivirus I've used, where I can leave it fully enabled without any impact on system performance. Other antivirus programs I've tried, (and believe me...I've tried a lot of em)...I've always had to disable them, games ran a lot smoother with them disabled. NOD32...no difference in how the games play...enabled or disabled.

And current system specs, although she's getting a bit old now and not bleeding edge, P4 3.4GHz, 1.5 gigs of RAM, Raptor 10krpm SATA hard drive. Usually playing bf'42/DC/Vietnam/bf2.

However...an antivirus program usually shouldn't affect your latency much. Smoothness of the game, yes. But latency..usually a software firewall is what would affect that.

 

But good firewall shouldn't do that either. ZoneAlarm is NOT one of such firewalls though... Sygate and Outpost worked fine in all conditions.
