:) I am back to using AVG "Free". Thus far it shows to be the best of the "free" ones as far as my system is concerned. This may or may not be your experience however, but it is worth giving a try.

    Thanks

I am using Trend Micro's PC-cillin, and turn off all but the real-time virus scanning.

I have never really gotten my hands dirty as to what AV is the best. I did switch over this year to Trend Micro. I gave up Symantec’s offing after noticing it was severely reducing my Disk I/O. Trend Micro seemed to get a good review at CNET.

I see many folks using the NOD32. I might play with this a bit. Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

One week I might have Norton, the next NOD, the next KAV, the next The Shield
    All trials

but the ones I bought were ALL DCS, Regdefend, BoClean,Ghost Security, SpySweeper over the years, everything else is always BETAs or trials. I like to keep changing it up

NOD 32 I used to have AVG Free but my system didn't like it. I still run it on my laptop, unless Eset change their license and do a deal for two on the same address then that will get NOD 32

Only company that I know of that allows you to use their product on 2 PC's, the way it was ment to be in the begining is BoClean. They allow BoCLean to be installed on your laptop and your desktop.

This is the way IT SHOULD BE PERIOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The reason for this is the persons Laptop& desktop are concidered as ONE. NOT two seperate eneties.
the Laptop is just a continuation of the persons desktop DUH?

Resolution Antivirus by Secure Resolutions ...

I've been testing / working with / checking out Resolution Antivirus Managed Security by:

    https://www.secureresolutions.com

This is worth checking out. They have a web based management utility. Pretty interesting. It takes a bit of time to get the hang of how it all works, but it seems to have potential. They are basically using the Panda AV engine. One big bonus is free Human tech support.

There are several ways you can deploy/install/update/manage the application across a network of many workstations, etc. Seems this could be nice for the IT manager type person.

    Check it out ...

I was using AntiVir 6. After having no success with version 7 and not liking AVG or Avast, I've stopped using a resident AV. Disabling the resident AV has made my system much faster. Going to use SSM, which doesn't slow my system at all, for real time protection. I still have a command line scanner that's integrated into everything that transfers files. So far, SSM has stopped everything. While I'm pretty much convinced that it will be sufficient protection against malicious code of any kind, I do keep full system backups in case my system is ever compromised.

SoftWin allows you to use their AV (BitDefender) on a desktop and laptop, while Frisk (F-Prot for Windows) allow you to use their AV on up to 5 computers in your household.

I think some are entering the class of a new minority now.

With the introduction of new HIPS programs that are effective in intercepting windows kernel and other systems calls you might at sometime in the future wish to add a NONE to your poll.

It's been posted that some are now confident on relying on just free Online Virus Scans and are migrating away entirely from any resident AV's at all.

Personally i feel HIPS are now revolutionizing Windows security in a manner not ever experienced before, those early results are returning within forum discussions a great deal of confidence from these new prevention programs which seem to have turned security up several notches.

I'm entering kinda late in this poll.
I am using KAV 6 and was using NOD32, on my desktop and laptop. I replaced NOD, on the laptop, with Avast, not because NOD was not good, but I did not want to pay for an Av on it due to little use. AVAST does well.

I will soon have to make a decision as to KAV 6 or NOD32. I was hoping that a trial would make one a clear cut winner, but both run well, with an edge to NOD, and yet I like the detection rates of KAV.

Those are two superb AVs, and the decision is a difficult one at this point in time.
