Do you P2P?

Are there any programs that allow you to p2p/torrent encrypted or through http?

 

Yup I P2P alot and have done so for years. I only use bittorrent. (utorrent)
Of course the content of what you download can be risky. Still havent seen anything about the bittorrent clients having any security flaws that has been exploited.
I personally havent downloaded anything dangerous trough bittorrent, unless my AV, FW, antispyware, rootkitrevealers or HIPS lie to me. It´s all about the content of the file not the distibution method (I´m talking bittorrent). That is my belief until proven wrong

 

Sure. I use p2p when looking for songs that i can't found in music forums, movies, pictures and torrents.

I run Limewire and shareazaa this time.

 

Azureus, but just to download linux distros . It only requires one open port which is very nice for security reasons.

Nope.. never.. again. last time I unknowingly installed a p2p was kazaa, at the time I thought it was another web browser, with a cool looking folder

limewire pro here and emule on my other box i couldn't live without p2p i also have Itunes but all you get is old stuff so it kind of sucks.

 

eMule and BitTorrent. Never got a virus, trojan, whatever.

 

Azureus It's the only way I can get some some of the files I want via torrent usually Linux and VMWare related, I don't use them for anything else.

This is the only way I can get books and music not available for buying here.
For me, P2P = culture freedom.

 

I use P2P (i'm affraid), not proud of it though... i like to call it "for educational purposes"... (looking for coursework and essays)

For those that don't use P2P: you don't know what your missing . Just don't use KAZAA, or his relatives. Use Emule
Don't download just about anything, use criteria, and you'll be safe. Like 50+ sources, probably means it's ok to download, etc...

Sometimes i don't even ask the oracle (google), and ask Emule 1st.

1-security risk
2-i have slow connection.

Perhaps your ISP is filtering P2P ports.

 

Depends on the p2p program you're using and the (combined)upload speed(s) of the peer(s) you'r uploading from

 

Likely because your ISP is throttling those conections. Use none standard ports and encrypting packet headers should negate that. There is a list of ISP [azureuswiki.com] that target torrents.

Aside from the above, make sure you're properly connectable [port forwarding], and of course if you're using torrents; sharing is a requirement as other torrent clients will give a much lower priority to those that are merely leeching.

 

Additionally to add somewhat to what dawgg said, Private trackers provide better speeds because members are required to share to maintain [usually at minimum] a 1:1 ratio or be banned from the tracker.

 

No not anymore, I haven´t used P2P in years, mainly because of the fact that I could not find any interesting stuff (music and adult videos) on the P2P networks anymore. Back in the days I downloaded quite a lot of stuff on Kazaa. But I have read some positive stuff about a couple of P2P tools, so I might check them out.

 

Yes - I use Emule with IP filter, stick to only 2 of the main servers at all times, and use Peerguardian for added security (and also to see exactly who I am blocking).

 

I voted NO (although I did P2P some years ago). Reasons:

• Security considerations.
• Too easy to drift into illegality.
