I continually seem to pick up a tracking cookie from some web site that I visit frequently (although I'm not sure which one), and the cookie is username@live365.com.

Ad-Aware SE Personal 1.0.6 picks this up during manual scans, and identifies it as a "critical" object (even though the threat rating is relatively low), but I'm sure that SpywareBlaster's protection would prevent it in the first place. Since I'm not sure of the actual severity of this cookie, I just wanted to mention it in the SpywareBlaster forum as a possibility to look into adding to their database, since I am using version 3.4.

Live365 is an internet radio service? Do you listen to a lot of online radio? I haven't used them in a long while, but I use to listen to one of their classic rock stations ...

 

Hey Steve, nope...I had never been to that site in my life! Until just a few minutes ago, when curiousity got the best of me (LOL).

I dunno....think perhaps RealPlayer could be adding it (not the website, the program)? Or MusicMatch (the player)? It probably is being added via SOME website that I visit....but before just a few minutes ago, I had never been to that one. I guess that's why it's been detected by Ad-Aware....as a "third party" cookie (probably through Firefox, because IE is set to deny third party cookies)......

 

You set FF up the same way (tools - options - under privacy - select cookies and expand it - make sure the accept from originating site only) -see attachment ... but the cookie is probably being set thru a media player.

 

I think you're exactly right, because I checked and FF is set to accept "for the originating web site only" already....

Guess one of my media players is adding it....which should make my request for SpywareBlaster to add it to their protection list even more valid.

Did you check the settings in the media players you use? I don't use the ones you've mentioned so I can't help you there.

 

I just checked RealPlayer, to disable "auto-updates" (I'll do it manually, thank you...it doesn't need to run in the background if I'm not using it), but I'm not sure where to check to see where I would find anything about cookies. Any suggestions?

Steve....I just did a scan with Ad-Aware, and it picked up the "live365.com" tracking cookie again....only this time, the location is @live365[2].txt

Should I enter the http://www along with the cookie to block, and also...what should I do regarding the ".txt"? Should I just list it as live365.com? I'm in the process of taking care of this now...

I just found this thread through a search because I'm having the same problem with my Ad-Aware scans and live365 tracking cookie. However, how do you open the cookie in Notepad? And while I'm asking, what exactly is the IE restricted zone?

 

Seems like a lot of work to stop a cookie !? I just use "CookieWall" from
www.analogx.com; once I place a "cookie" in its "Kill/Delete" column,
I never see it again .
