Is it possible to be infected with virus, worm, trojan, backdoor, etc. from playing an online game like Battlefield or World or Warcraft for example? I've never thought about it before. Any views, opinions, facts you can share?

    Thank you

Thank you for the Bitdefender info, I'll make note of it.

    However...
Let me try to be more clear. Is it possible, are there any known instances of this happening, how does/would/could it happen?

I run Avast, ZA, WinPatrol, Ad-Aware, SpyBot, SpywareBlaster, Spyware Doctor, and others. I run online scanners from time to time to double check.

I don't think it has happened to me. Just curious of possibilities. The reason is this. A friend says he won't play any online games because he thinks his computer will become infected. I've never heard of this happening. So hence my question to you all.

    Thank you

Anytime you play an online game you are connected to others computers through a server. The answer is yes you cna be. It all depends on the people running the server the game is on.

    HI,
Any software that connects to a server can be exploited.
    It all depends on:
Server - if the server is of normal nature, then no worries.
Software - does the connecting software have any exploitable holes?
You can be hacked, if someone send an exploit down the open port and it is capable of coming out of its hole and take over the system. But you can say that for IE, Firefox using port 80 or IM using port whatever or a game X using port xxxxx.
