    Hi,

I bought Disk Director 10 about 2 weeks ago, and I was wondering whether it and anyone out there could help me with something that's been worrying me for a few months. I have XP Home SP/2 OEM, and 3 hard disk drives...

HDD1: Windows NTFS 280GB; Fat32 1GB; Linux 19GB (consisting of one 18Gb Reiserfs partition and one 1Gb extfs swap partition - sorry I can't recall the exact versions of the file systems.) HDD2: NTFS 80GB. HDD3: NTFS 40GB.

My track zero is a mess, according to your report tool. (It has lots of sectors full of stuff on it, including the remains of GAG, following an otherwise successful disk clone from a PATA to a new SATA disk several months ago. After my new disk was installed it would not boot. I panicked and used the GAG boot loader which found Windows but not Linux. Then I used Windows XP's FIXMBR (which I should have used in the first place!) to be sure Windows was ok - it was. I then re-installed Linux which put GRUB on for me. Since then I HAVE been able to boot successfully, via GRUB, to both Windows XP and Linux.)

As I say, I do NOT have any problems in booting up. However, a few things which used to work on my old dual boot disk, now, either don't work (such as rfstool), or take far too long (such as GoBack) and CheckDisk (which, when run on two disks, does each of them twice!) And when I do Norton anti-virus scans, I'm told I have 3 MBRs and 4 boot records. I used to have 2 and 2 before adding my new third disk. So now, surely, I should have 3 and 3. Also, my new Acronis True Image is detecting some of this (although it seems to be working perfectly well.)

It would be nice to get it clean and neat, and sorted properly, but re-installing XP is out of the question - and I'd rather not have to re-install Linux either. I think I may need to clear track zero, then use Windows XP FixMBR on it, then reinstall grub (even if grub then overwrites the Windows MBR), but I am not sure about this, nor exactly how to go about it.

Now that I've got Disk Director, I thought it would be a good time to ask someone.

Thank you in anticipation of any replies,

    jessj

    Hello jessj,

Thank you for choosing Acronis Partition and Disk Managing Software.

Could you please create Acronis Report and as it is described in Acronis Help Post? This would provide us with detailed information on the hard disk partition structure.

Please submit a request for technical support. Attach the collected report file to your request along with the step-by-step description of the actions taken before the problem appears and the link to this thread. We will investigate the problem and try to provide you with the solution.

    Thank you.
