I am looking for anti-spyware programs to recommend to folks who are still running Windows 95, 98, and ME. Of the major freeware versions, the only one that will work with Windows 9x (that I'm aware of) is Spybot Search and Destroy, but of course it does not offer real-time protection. Spyware Guard will run on Windows 98 and ME. Is there any other that you folks have heard of? I suppose one could combine Spyware Guard with Spyware Blaster and have a pretty decent setup, but are there any other choices out there?

Sounds good to me. As you suggest, there aren't that many antispyware programs which run on Win9X, as most security programs have migrated to the newer NT-based platforms. {For example, NIS 2006 doesn't run on 9x at all}. One other that comes to mind is CounterSpy, I believe it will run on Win98SE and higher. I believe Spyware Doctor also runs on 9X. HTH .. ;)

    Edit:
Sorry, I just noticed that the original poster was in fact looking for free programs.
My apologies that I didn't read the original first posting better.
    My mistake !
    Maybe a suggestion for a thread-title change:
Real-time free protection for Windows 9x systems
    ;)

How about WinPatrol? The free version monitors startup programs, IE Helpers, scheduled tasks, services, active tasks, cookies, file types, HOST files, changes to IE home pages and search pages, etc. It also will automatically delete known malware that is found running on your system. There is great support at http://www.castlecops.com/f105-WinPatrol_Talk.html .
I use it, and I love it for being very light on the system.
