Back again with a red-eye / picture viewer comment.

First the bad news. I broke ACDSee, thereby maintaining my "perfect" record of giving the thumbs down to every single picture viewer I have ever tried.

But there is hope! Free application XnView has been building a name for itself. I just installed it, and noticed it does have a built in utility for fixing red-eye. I have to admit, I have never used a red-eye fixer because its funner to new eyes, but that's just me.

I think everyone should try XnView, and then we can compare notes!

I like reading them, but its all in the timing as to whether I get inspired. A lot of conditions have to be met simultaneously in order for me to connect with an insight. It happens, though, and I wish I would mark those days on the calander.

Hi, sorry I' ve been away lately but I was a bit ill over the holidays
and couldn't be at the computer. Don't you hate when you feel ill
    when everyone is celebrating?:doubt:

Hey, Bigbuck that is amazing the effect you produced with that
filter and by looking at the picture, I was thinking that it would be
great if you could select the eyes with the Freehand Selection and
then invert your selection in order to apply the lacquer filter outside
the eyes only..(layer 1) and after you applied that effect you can
duplicate that layer and re-invert the selection so that the eyes
will be selected again... and you apply the lacquer filter
on them...(layer 2) and reduce the opacity of that second layer
until you're satisfied with the result. ;)

I had XnView in the past, a fairly good application
but I don't have it anymore especially since I installed more graphic
programmes that do correct the red eyes... I did not need it anymore.

    Big Buck-

I made an initial effort at lacquering Elisabeth, but got very poor results. I attribute this to the fact that the "edges" in the photo were not within normal ranges. By edges, I mean what appear to the eye as edges, like the edge of hairline, the face, eyes...you know...edges. I try to "fix" photo's sometimes, so I tried to make an assessment of the areas where there were problems. In the picture, the one on the right is not an attempt at correction, it is, rather, an attempt to find some of the edges.

I'm not sure if fixing it will help, but my verdict is that the saturation is at least double what it should be, the contrast is almost as much too high, and that the brightness is too low, and that some areas, like around the eyes look painted black, to accent the lighter color of the eyes.

The main reason I mention this is that I find Lacquer so interesting. Hopefully, you will too!

    Hi Everyone!
Hope you all had a very good start to
    your New Year!:D

Uguel, or anyone, I know you showed some frames that made the subject look 3-D,
what I am looking for is a way I can make the whole pic look 3-D.....

Will I have to get some kinda of prog to do that?
I like that Terragenand other progs like it,
but am lookin' for something that I can use pretty much right away..
(Meaning I can understand and use it!:p:D)

    Any Ideas?

Like your lacquer effects, Buck and Hands! :D

....not a very good start for me but I will survive......:doubt: :D

yes, I know a program to make 3D design very easily.
It is very basic though. There aren't lots of
shapes in it but if you get it for making 3D text
that might do for a start. I did not try it much
(not enough time) but I it tried long enough to get
a good idea of the program. It's called
    Serif 3D Plus 2.

To download it you must register. You can give them
a google email account and if you don't want to receive
lots of publicity by email, do not subscribe to any list....

you might get information at this webpage

    Product info

    http://www.freeserifsoftware.com/software/3dPlus/default.asp

    To register and download:

    http://www.freeserifsoftware.com/Software/3DPlus/download1.asp

I tried also Daz but I did not like it very much
maybe because the free version is very limited
but if you pay to get more models, that would make
the software more interesting to work with.

Daz allows you to create and dress human shapes
    and it is also free.

...a very quick one made with Serif 3d....:D

Remember that you can use dingbat fonts
to create new shapes also !;)

Re: Paint Shop Pro & PhotoFiltre Talk

Hello there. First thank goodness I found this thread. I have worked my way through it and found some great tutorials and tips for which many thanks!!!

Now I wonder if anyone can help me. I use PSP (was 8 until last week when I got a good deal on 9 presumably as X is now bedding in) together with Photophiltre and Neat Image as my day to day graphics apps.

With my latest scanner I received a copy of Arcsoft Photo Sudio 5.5 which I do not really expect to use much except I quite like the 3D Text Factory plugin that shipped with it. It does quick bevelled text etc and for when I don’t want to play about it might be useful. The trouble is with all the files copied into the plugin file it just won’t work. The error message says not all files may have been installed properly. Has anyone tried this one and if so with any degree of success please?

    Many thanks,

    Sally

Hey you're welcome Harnser! :) It is always nice
to hear such encouraging comments. We all try to help the
best we could here although we still have lots to learn
    about those graphic programs.

You mean that evertime you want to apply a plugin or filter
to your image you get an error? ...Is that so?

Hmm, I did not try that program but see if this will help...

...are the files you installed in your plugin folder,
.8bf files or such? If so, you might check if you have the
proper .DLLS installed in WINDOWS\system. Like the MSVRT10.DLL,
MSVCRT.DLL and Plugin.DLL. They will be found in C:\ Windows\ System.

Those DLLS are important, they allow your plugins or filters to work properly.

Thanks muchly for that speedy response!

That's interesting I installed MSVRT10.DLL and Plugin.DLL. only yesterday because I had forgotten to put them back when I rebuilt my machine but not MSVCRT.DLL I will go and try that one. Otherwise the other .8bf files etc look ok. I will go and have a try with the missing one and let you know how I get on

    Cheers,

    Sally

Re: Paint Shop Pro & PhotoFiltre Talk

Hey, you're welcome Sally!:) I hope everything will work ok after installing
the MSVCRT.DLL. Most of my plugins worked well except for Fun House filters
which gave me error messages everytime I tried to apply it. So I went
to check the Windows folder and saw that I had the MSVRT10. DLL but not
the plugin.DLL nor MSVCRT.DLL.:( I installed them, rebooted my
computer, opened PSP and tried to apply the Fun House plugin again
to my picture and it worked well. But keep in mind that some plugins
work only on a selection, others with layers and, most of them,
will work well on a simple .jpg or JPEG picture.;)

Re: Paint Shop Pro & PhotoFiltre Talk

Hey, I just want to tell everyone that has Photofiltre,
that you will find more masks and patterns on their download page.
So all you have to do is this....

Enter the Photofiltre site, go to the left frame menu and
click on ''Downloads''...a new page will open....
scroll down till you see ''Masks for the PhotoMasque module''
...now you will see plenty of masks that you can download.
Download whichever you want and unzip them in your Photofiltre
masks folder. For my part, I downloaded all of them and then I only
chose the ones I liked best and deleted the others....

You might also download some of the *pattern files on
that page too. Again you just download them but this time
you unzip them in your pattern folder.

    * A pattern can be used to fill the empty spaces
produced by the mask of for creating backgrounds only.

To apply a filter and a mask to your image.

    1. Open your image in Photofiltre

    2. Go to the Menu > Filter > PhotoMasque > Click in the small rectangular
window where it is written "mask". A new window will open
showing a folder with several masks in it. Browse and choose a
mask that you like, click on preview and apply it if it pleases
you or choose another one. When you're satisfied with the mask that you chose, click on "Mode" in the same window. Now choose how you
will fill your mask, it can be with a colour, transparency, grayscale, a
gaussian blur or a pattern. I chose "Pattern"and then ''Fill Pattern''.
So I just browse the pattern folder, chose a pattern I like and then I
previewed and applied the pattern along with the mask choosen previously.
    See screenshot below.......

    Hope this help.

Edit: you can add a frame after applying a mask if you want.

I have a slight problem trying to install psp 7.04 patch. The install gets like 98% done and then says...
The file C:\winnt\system32\msvcp60.dll is in use and cannot be installed. Abort, retry, or ignore are the only options then at this point. Abort the install fails, retry completely fails, and if I hit ignore it skips the file and the install finishes. Any ideas?

Re: Paint Shop Pro & PhotoFiltre Talk

There's a good topic here on that matter, here:

    http://www.wackyb.com/zzub/index.php?showtopic=3665

One poster has the same problem as you're having
and was able to install it by taking another user's proper
advise. And if you look at replies number 12 to 15 on that page.
It seems that you can just ignore that message and install it
without problem. For that 60 .dll came with your first PSP 7
version and the patch has it too so it will just overwrite it.

The "60" of the DLL file-name tags it as the version number.
Since it only wanted to replace the same version DLL,
there's no harm done with ignoring it.

For my part, I had PSP 7.02 and since it was working
    fine I never updated after.:)
