    Hello

I have NOD32 2.50.45 installed. My machine has a 32-bit CPU and OS.
I understand that the 64-bit versions of NOD32 are backwards compatible, therefore they would work on my 32-bit platform.

If I were to install version 2.51.8 for Windows 2003/XP 64-Bit, which would work on my computer from what I can gather, would I actually gain anything. IE are there any other differences between 2.50.45/2.51.8 other than the 32/64-bit?

    Thanks

The difference between the two installers is that the 64-bit installer contains both the 32-bit and the 64-bit code - so the installer is bigger...

During installation, NOD32 determines if it's a 64-bit windows OS or not, and installs the appropriate code - if you're running 32-bit windows, all you did was add 1Mb (approx) to your download size - so you wasted a little disk space and bandwidth that you probably would not have needed to - UNLESS you plan on running a 64-bit windows OS on ANOTHER machine that you're building/buying, it's just a waste of time downloading the "wrong" version...

Although, according to the download site, the latest version for XP 32-bit is actually 2.50.45. I downloaded it the other day from www.nod32uk.com, and it does indeed show up as being 2.50.25 on the site, but when installed, this is what it says in the Information section:

On my XP puter, it's version 2.50.45 (English, commercial version).

    and on mine it's 2.50.25.

If you use the 2.50.45 installer, you must have downloaded the 64-bit installer and whether you have win64 or not, you'll get 2.50.45.

However - if you download the 32-bit installer, the base version will show as 2.50.25. - and you'll save a Mb of download and disk space...

    Make sense?

Makes no sense since this is the same old installer from last year that I'm using.
Anyways, it has been updated to x.xx.45 - So I'm just wondering what they changed or fixed.

hmm... my machine updates from a local mirror, and I've still got 2.50.25, which is the installer I've been using - I've got component update turned ON - so if there was a base installation file that should have updated, then I would have expected it to update.... perhaps Marcos can explain the EXACT way that Eset updates the base installation number...

I was fairly sure that 2.50.45 was the 64-bit installer...

    64 bit installer was 2.51.8 :)

The latest 32-bit installer for NT systems contains v. 2.50.45 modules, the latest automatic component update of the Internet support module was v. 2.50.41 which resolved a Windows update issue. Beside a fix for the issue, no other changes have been made.

That does not really make sense!! Why a version 2.50.45 if nothig was changed after version 2.50.41!!o_O

why would a machine still be sat at 2.50.25 then? I have checked 3 machines here - they're all saying base version of 2.50.25... and this machine is setup as "program components - Automatically"

    cheers

I've just checked our fileserver, which has the nod32 admin version with the mirror functionality - it was setup as automatic on both version and database - it's still at 2.50.25.

On the mirror functionality - it did have:

"Required permission to update program components" - so I've UNCHECKED that - performed a mirror update, updated from Eset's update servers, and I'm in the process of rebooting as I just installed this month's Microsoft security patch from windows update too... we'll see what comes up when I get my fileserver back up - should only be a couple of minutes....
