AVs: from 3 to "just" 1, & live to tell the grandkids about it?

You could say that I got a tad enthused about security (for a time), &
while 3 AVs (with real time file scanning) work quite well together on my PC thus far, it's time to thin the herd a bit as I may've possibly run into a rather subtle conflict - i.e., TrojanHunter updates working/not working, as slick as they should. Minor problem, yes, but shadows falls across the land about what could happen, if I don't tidy up the security act soon.

Thus far, for now, while on the internet I no longer run:

    a) SpywareGuard,
    b) Grisoft's AVG 7.1 Pro AV edition,
    c) Ad-Watch,
    d) DRWeb's SpiderGuard NT - and only that module.

But, as some of you know (and Johnny Come Lately here found out), there may be many an "unseen" thing or three running along with apps that I thought I'd shut off via msconfig/services.msc, etc. To wit, when I'd shut off all that I could (I thought), Belarc Advisor - see screencap below - reports another story.

Now... tell me this, if you can, please: when all was off (as I thought), yet BA reports 3 real time AVs going,

    1) does that mean that BA's reporting those 3 AVs are on at that very second,

    OR

    2) what's set to run, in the normal course of things?

Little difference, in a sense, I suppose. But, with 3 AVs on at once, seems I may well be pushing my luck - should they all pounce at once, on a suspect.

    ===========================

So, here's the main question; for now I'd like to use NOD32, as King Tut running the fort, and > completely shut off < AVG & DrWeb (for the moment) AND YET be able to update the "deceased" & still use them as (on demand scanners only) as Checks #2 and #3, so to speak.

    3) Is that possible - say, uninstall the two AVs and put them over on the F: drive perhaps & run them from there, when/if needed? Or, unistall the two AVs and put each on a drive alone, and pick and choose among modules/choices, as far as is possible? OR, do I more or less end up in the same boat, where I am now?

Again, all three right now seem to play nicely together, but given slight glitch with TH not updating (as described earlier), I wonder if I'm on the brink of some pending calamity, eventually, by 2,800 similar and overlapping programs?

Just now, while on the net, I'm running: Ewido, NOD32 (and it's the only AV that scans incoming mail), SpySweeper, Window Washer, THGuard, and a trial ver. of Online Armor, and Sygate Pro 5.5 firewall.

Again, while running the above apps while on the internet or if offline doing something and I shut off everything I can, Belarc seems to report that the other two AVs are hovering nearby, in the ether at the same time and it's the latter two AVs I'm thinking I should cut out, for further testing, to see what-who exactly may be the fly in the ointment re TrojanHunter not updating in the usual fashion.

I know, I know... keep my hand off the mouse & this PC may be "safer" from me, but... Just another little speed bump, in the road of life and learning about what to do (or not do). Don't try this at home, kids, without supervision. <g> "Another Stupid Human Trick, for the David Letterman show, I guess.

I may've taken a wrong fork in the road, for a bit, sampling all security apps but I can always count on the folks here to weigh in on things, and how to possibly save the day, & set things right again (and I appreciate that).

Thanks, for any "how-to" ideas/thoughts, on this,
    SG1 (Pat)

    Two observation's.
    1. You don't really need to remove SpywareBlaster as it takes no resources. It places 'kill bits' in the registry to stop malware in the first place. Now unless it clashes with something known to you then i'd put it back. It's a good extra level of protection and at no cost to resources.

    2. Your AV paranoia seems to have spread to your AT's. Running both Ewido and TH in real-time is a no-no. One or the other, unless you hope they will get in each others way and trip each other up when trying to intercept some malware. You must have seen one of those clips on the tv where two guys in baseball converge for the same ball, and they end up running into each other and none of them get the ball. You get my meaning? I'd lose one of either Ewido or TH.
