I found out the hard way that nod32 can't "cut threads" from an infected file to the processor. My cousins system was infected with the "Antinny.AT" worm, and nod32 simply couldn't do anything about it. I tried booting into safe mode, and even then that worm was protecting itself against any form of removal. I would hope that nod32 3.0+ can cut a processes threads and deal with the threat.

I told them it was important to secure the PC before it gets infected. This way, you don't have to worry about removing anything. Most end-users don't understand that once a PC is infected, you have a much lower chance of cleaning it.

In any case, I consider this a weakness of nod32. It should be able to terminate the threads of a running malware program so that it can be removed. There isn't any reason why nod32 itself can't do this, as the cleaners that the company makes can.

Yes, this is annoying ... I won't say that Nod32 should or should not have caught this worm. I don't know all the inner workings of all AV and Trojan scanners, but recently I read an interesting magazine that I bought (but can't find it anymore) where evaluation was done with several AV and Trojan scanners working together. Best free solution (if I remember well) was AVG with Microsofts Antispyware Beta. Best paid solution was Nod32 with Ewido. As far as I remember Nod32 and Ewido together caught more malware than all other combinations of tools together.... If I just could find that magazine again....

Hmm.. don't understand your question... was Nod32 installed before the computer got infected or did somenone install Nod32 in order to get rid of the worm once the computer was infected.

The computer in question was infected before nod32 was installed. I don't know how you didn't understand that from my suggestion. I didn't post a question, I posted a suggestion.
