  1. OMG, I agree 100% !!!!

  2. I suspect Prevx will have a certain bias such that it will probably be excellent with fast spreading and New malware, but on the negative side it will probably
be less capable of handling older more obscure strains unless they actively try to seek it out.

    .

Interesting, I always had the (probably mistaken impression??) that files were being indentified using some kind of simple hash of the whole file , which i think would be highly ineffective and inefficent compared to the traditional AV signatureso_O.

I'm also wondering, when a file is unknown and it looks up the database, what exactly is being sent? Is the whole file being sent like when i load it up on virtualtotal? Is that why they can usually analyse things without me explictly uploading the file?

I dimly remember reading the help file saying something like on occasion they will ask me to upload the file ??

Sorry for all the questions, I'm just curious. Some questions i can answer myself just by experimenting but if you know the answer....

Yes, you kept the faith. Particuarly here, where you kept the flag high, despite the fall in the prevx popularity as opposed to the new darling Online Armor (which btw looks like a potential competitior for Prevx1 in the newbie stakes market, and maybe safe n sec which i haven't got the time to try yet).

At times, you even sound as if you were part of the devloper team , talking on behalf of the company on Wilders and castlecops. Not sure if you used the royal "We" yet. :)

    Probably right

Nah, it's more complex than that. They can detect polymorphic code and such. I don't know that it would detect pure virii, but then the malware scene is moving away from that anyway. Spyware is becoming *morphic, though.

They can request files if they need a closer look, but what it sends is just what you see on the Virus Info Center page.

That's pretty much what we're all here on this forum for :)

Of course I also did the same for OA when it first came out, although there wasn't as much to explain.

lol, I wish.. maybe someday I'll understand programming stuff, but for now I leave that kind of thing to my dad. Understanding technology and being able to explain it to non-technical people is one of my obsessions, though.

What kind of cpu usage did you get there VC? I had about 15mb ram, but didn't notice the cpu use so I'm not sure. Some others have noted high cpu also..

Installation got fudged up on my sys, when I rebooted, it started running on its own, however I couldn't find an uninstall entry or an entry for PrevxR in programs, in my system, it managed to consume 50% of my dual CPUs and had impact on the speed of my system as well.

Some programs even use more, and this is very nice, but I prefer to have a 0% usage when the system isn't do nothing...

That is what I am seeing also. Just installed today and I have seen no slowdown on my system. Seems to work well so far, with the exception of it allowing adaware to access the internet update without an outgoing prompt. Everything else I have gotten a prompt to allow/deny outgoing connection. Still running Kerio 2.1.5 for now. But if this works out I may shut Kerio down since I am behind a router.
So far seems like a winner.

  14. Oh sure. I don't mean to imply that you actually code the stuff or anything. But i mean you sound like one of their employees working for their tech support or something.

just curious if this program takes up a low amount of resources since it said on the site it required 128mbs of ram on the computer...just how much does it actively use?

It used 15mb ram here when I tried it. Some report fluctuating cpu usage though.

hmm...15mbs still seems a bit too much for me for something that "complements" AVs and firewalls

You will only see the log process of CHX-I!

So how you see a "Device" in Task Manager or similar program?
