Thanks. I should ask this though. (Mind you, I'm no programmer) Wouldn't it be useful to muse over the precise changes made to PE 2.1 (ver 2.0 still runs flawlessly) and go from there in trying to find this needle in a haystack?
Here is some of my system info:

    Date: 11/18/2005

Thanks.. yes we do have to look at changes, but its good to verify there is a problem. Also see what other programs are running, and that you don't have malware on your machine :)

    Back to the drawing board..

Like many in this thread I am now unable to get PE 2.1 to load on my notebook, an AMD K6 2/450, the beta as 2.0 would load. It all started when I had to remove the ProcessGuard beta, it would cause me to lose access to the computers on my LAN. I have removed all traces of ProcessGuard from the notebook, the file/folder structure and registry entries, and have done likewise for PE during the many uninstall/install attempts to get PE working.

As suggested here, I have sent DCS an email about this problem with the list of startup programs as generated by asviewer. Hopefully this will be sorted out for us soon.

UPDATE:Today, 11/27/05, I located a backup copy of PE 2.0 and was able to install/run it on said notebook.

    FWIW,

I experienced my first problem with Port Explorer 2.1 too last night.

I have had it installed since it came out. It was loaded and when I went to click on the icon in the taskbar, the app would just hang and not open. This has only happened one time only.:(

    Running XP Pro SP2

Edit: I forgot to add this.
I wasn't able to connect to the internet and had problems this morning too. So far I have been online all day and no problems have occurred. I also sent email with details.

Our number increases, I see. I might add that recently I uninstalled TDS-3 likely a day or so before I thought to launch PE troubleshooting another issue. It was then that I was surprised by PE 2.1's complete failure. Fortunately throughout the uninstall/re-install of PE2.1 and then finally reverting to 2.0, my LSP configuration remained in tact. I don't appear to have any connection issues at the moment.

Any news on this? PE 2.1 won't open on my machine, I re-installed it but to no avail. It's not that PE crashes, it doesn't even say hello, the cursor changes briefly but then no task, just nothing.

We've identified one thing which may be causing this - we can't say for certain at this stage as testing on more systems is required but we will release a new update soon. Thanks all for your feedback and patience :)

Why am I getting popups on this site. that have installers for crapware.

  13. mjc3

    mjc3 Guest

The popups must have been after I started looking for an answer as to why PE 2.1 won't work. I had one other page open I guess cause now no popups . Sorry

I think it may be fixed already, next test version should be good for most people. A few things have been fixed and one fix in there would affect lots of other parts of PE :) so it may be just what the doctor ordered.

Re: Port Explorer won't open 2.11

No it doesn't work. 2.11 does exactly what 2.1 did which is nothing! A flop of the cursor but no gui, no nada, zip!
FYI - I followed installation suggestion.

    Sorry. :'(

Incidentally, just to make sure no stone is left unturned - I don't have PE installed in the default folder - but surely that would not make any difference. What is frustrating and certainly frustrating for you is that PE2.0 runs flawlessly but 2.1x won't even launch. Bummer.

Same here: Processguard asked whether to execute, I agreed, PE skedaddled.
I added an exception to Kaspersky (just in case), no change.

    Hi

this is my story with PE 2.1

PE2.00 worked fine on my win XP sp1. When I install PE 2.1 it also worked, but one day it stop running. I try to install PE 2.11 but still no good (I try to reinstall, uninstall then fresh install but with no success).
When new version of PG 3.200 was released I want to install it, but I sow in other thread that there is problem (no GUI) with Win xp sp1. So I decided to install sp2 on my machine. And ....... PE 2.11 works fine !!!!! ( PG 3.200 not installed yet)

It may be a requirement but we may be able to check versions and use different code for XP SP1.. as long as it is that problem. Some more testing directly between SP1 and SP2 is needed. Its a bigger job than expected which shows how much better SP2 actually is :)

It will be interesting after all this if it boils down to simply SP1 vs SP2.
At this point, I can be patient for final determination. Thanks.
