    Hello Acronis Forum

    I have a paid-for, registered copy of TrueImage 8. I re-installed XP recently.

How do I enter the reg code to the program? Sorry this seems so elementary, but I can't see it.

It should ask you for the registration code when you install the program.

    Hello martal,

Are you sure that you actually need to register? Unless you uninstalled TI or formatted your HD before reinstalling Windows there may well be no need to reregister TI. It's more likely that the Serial Number is retained in one of the TI's Dynamic Link Library files rather than in the Windows registry.

    Regards

Rick_G, I re-installed before posting, looking for that prompt. Didn't happen.

Menorcaman, I formatted first. XP has no recollection of Acronis.

Usually, this stuff is in Help | Register. I know that they are using key downloads, like eg Kaspersky, but I do have a serial!

Are we talking about a first time intall of TI 8 or a reinstall of a previously registered installation?

It's a reinstall on a virgin XP. I did the purchase via dabs.com (UK).

    Have this from April:

    Hi martal,

Foregive me but I'm having a little difficulty understanding your current situation. From the info provided, it seems as if you initially installed the time limited free trial version of TI 8. I assume that at some time prior to the expiry of the trail you purchased an upgrade to the full version. You will have received your Serial Number at the same time. I also assume that you uninstalled the trial version before installing the full version and entering the Ser. No. for the first time.

You have now reformatted your HD, re-installed Windows XP and then installed the Full version of TI 8 again. You successfully completed TI's install but, during the process, were never prompted to enter the Ser. No.

If the above scenario is correct then the only thing I can think of is that perhaps you had previously created a Secure Zone (SZ) and activated the Startup Recovery Manager (SRM). It could be that this is somehow (and I'm clutching at straws here!!) fooling TI's install routine into thinking that TI is already installed and registered. The reason I say this is that activating the SRM causes TI to modify the MBR of your system disk, which, together with the Secure Zone, is not affected by a reformat.

    Regards

    Hello again Menorcaman

You are exactly right up to the SZ and SRM, which I never used. So I seem to be in an exceptional situation.

Curiously I was able to restore a Linux partition on my recent trial version. I thought you couldn't restore on the trial.

I finally got a reply from Acronis support on this, pointing to pages on the site, which may get me further.

However, should I upgrade to TI 9? This was my original intention, but I was a bit put off by some stinging comments in this forum.

TI 9 Build 2323 still has a few wrinkles, although the basic imaging and restoring functions seem to be working well for most people. Hopefully these wrinkles will be ironed out in the next Build.

The final build of TI 8 (Build 937) has proved to be very stable. So, unless you have a particular problem with that build or you can't live without TI 9's new features for a little longer, I would wait for the next build of TI 9 before upgrading. However, having said that, it would be worth availing yourself of this <Special 40% Discount Christmas Offer> whilst it lasts in order to purchase TI 9 Build 2323. You can then register your purchase on the Acronis Web Site without installing it and download the next build when it eventually becomes available.

    Regards

    All noted, Menorcaman. Thanks.

Will post with my results, when relatively sober!
