I'm having a weird problem with LnS and Proxomitron. After closing and restarting Proxomitron, the browser can't connect anymore. This message pops up:

"The connection was refused when attempting to contact the proxy server you have configured. Please check your proxy settings and try again"

A reboot is needed to get everything back to normal. Closing LnS also works. Is this normal or is it a LnS bug?

    Hi BVV,

I'm using Proxomitron and Look'n'Stop as well. I don't have any problem (and I'm using it for years already). Did you allow Proxomitron correctly in the Application filtering? Did you set Proxomitron correctly? Did you set the Proxy in the network configuration of Windows correctly? ;)

    Best regards,

    Patrice

I have never had any problems using Proxo with different freeware firewalls. It does work now, so the LnS filtering rules should be correct. However after closing and restarting only Proxo, the browser (or any other program using Proxomitron) can't connect anymore. After also closing and resating LnS everything is back to normal. That's really odd, if it has nothing to do with LnS.

    "resating" should be "restarting"

    Hi BVV,

I tried to do the same as you described it, but nothing happens on my system. Everything is working fine, when closing down Proxomitron and restarting it new. I don't think Look'n'Stop is involved in that. Have you already checked the Log file of Look'n'Stop during this experience. Are there any packets blocked? I guess that the problem is somewhere else on your system...

    Regards,

    Patrice

Eh, well everything is working again (at least for the moment). I didn't change anything. There must have been a temporary problem somewhere...

I cannot get to the proxomitron web page - I get 'weird' letters and that's it -

I've been using AdSubtract? Any thoughts on if its worth going to Proxomitron? If so - WHERE DO IT GET IT!

I tried the German pages and the english pages -

I don't know AdSubtract so i can't comment on if there would be an improvement, but i would go nowhere without Proxo. This is the best that i've seen as for ad- and content-filtering.
If i understood your searching for german pages also, you might want to have a look at http://www.buerschgens.de/Prox/index.html where there is a customized german version (with extra rules for ppl who frequently access german-language sites) and a BBoard...

    Hi folks!

Computer Cops and Proxomitron Forum are equal "official" sites for Proxomitron. It is just the owner of Computer Cops who LOVES the word OFFICIAL :D

Scott Lemmon, the author of Proxomitron, is found in both these forums.

A wonderfully glorious age has come to an end unfortunately. Proxomitron will no longer be developed. The authors comments are below.

Versions 4.4 and the newest 4.5 are and forever will be available for download at ComputerCops.biz.

Soon, for posterity, all previous releases shall also be available for download from the same site.

Perhaps I'm seeking a way to obtain as many supportive users as possible to rally to Scott and try to keep this program from coming to an end.

In such an effort, please respond with your comments to this new article. Lets show Scott our support and dedication for his free work in preserving our privacy.
