hi Anyhoo, all the ones mentioned so far cost money

here is a comparitive review that may be of some help
    http://pc-system-utilities-software-review.toptenreviews.com

you could assemble a whole set of system utilities for free.

sysinternals do a lot of good free utilities

ashampoo winoptimizer is one you are likely to see for free on a magazine cover disk..

Not a fan of them personally, and dont use any, but I have some of tried them and found V communication System Suite to be the most useful, Iolo System Mechanic is not bad and really didnt like norton.

I use RegVac to clean the Registry, WinRescue XP (both from www.superwin.com) to rebuild the Registry occasionally after removing dead wood, and from my CD Norton System Works 2003. I refuse to reinstall the latter owing to the difficulties I have had in the past when trying to remove Symantec software totally from my PC.

Don't use Norton Utilities, I have been using them for awhile years ago and they don't work properly.

Only and only Tuneup Utilities 2006. It does it all....even changes the boot screen, welcome screen and visuals.

    Hi guys,
Just a word of warning to anyone who's thinking about purchasing System Mechanic Professional 6.
I installed this bit of kit and have been really disappointed with it. It's hung during quick optimisation tasks and seems to cause more problems than solve them.
It seems to be really buggy.
I did a bit of research and found some review comments on this software as below:

    http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/t...-6320370-3987259?v=glance&s=software&n=507846

Disclaimer: NOT to be confused with prior installations 4 and 5 which seem to get the thumbs up with most techies I know.

:D As one who out of necessity must utilize free software where ever possible, I in combination use the following, together they do a good job for me.

    (1) CCCleaner. (2) RegSeeker. (3) Smart Buster. RegSeeker has a good tweaker option. Also one may want to check the products from Toni Arts, they did real good for me when I was utilizing Windows98, and they are also "free" ware.

    Thanks
