bitdefender or nod32

wich of these top notch antivirus apps.are all around better then the other

 

Download an evaluation of each and try for yourself. I've been a fan of NOD32 for a long time, and tend to prefer it, but Bitdefender is getting rated quite well lately....so try them both out and see which performs better on your system.

 

hi.YeOldeStonecat.i have both of them rite now i have bitdefender on and i love it.but i also realy like nod32.i was hoping for some pro's and con's.from users of both av's

 

I also use both here. Bitdefender Pro 9 and also NOD32 Ver 2.0. They are both very good and both the job well, though I do find BD slightly more easier to config than NOD32. I didn't have any probs configuring NOD32 (thanks to Blackspears settings ) but its not an AV product that I would reccomend to amateurs or people who are not knowlegable on PC's.

Also they both update very frequently so this is another bonus.

Like YeOldeStonecat said download and evaluate both but try only one at a time, than take it from there.

Last time I played with BitDefender was version 8. Don't know what's changed in version 9.

Ran into a couple issues with respect to registry/script protection and a few FP's. Support took a while to fix the FPs.

It's a good app, does well on most tests. As mentioned, try both out and see for yourself.

Myself I settled on NOD32. Seems to be the most consistent and support for lack of a better term, has been extremely supportive.

 

I downloaded and tried the both products ~ a month ago. I setteld on Bitdefender 9.0. For me the easy of setup and a more intuitive interface was the deciding factor.

Well, there's nothing wrong with supporting your own decision, especially when it's about a 1st class AV program like BitDefender.

I own both BD 9 (until the refund goes through) and NOD, and I prefer NOD ever so slightly.

 

I´ve been looking for BD too, but I prefer the stability, low resources usage and heuristic of NOD32. BTW can someone talk about the resources taken by BD8/9 ?

NOD32 has better overall protection, is lighter and faster than bitdefender..

 

I vote to BD, but I think you can install two and test.

 

I use both NOD32 and BD Pro 9. The BD Pro is used on a PII 266 and I've never had any probs with it when it comes to system resources. So if a good old trusty PII can run it, well than so can a P4.

 

In my mind there are 4 important protection levels. Here they are in chronological order.

1. Protection against zero hour threats.

2. Protection against about less than a week to 4 weeks old threats.

3. Protection against about 4 weeks to 6 months old threats.

4. Protection against about older than 6 months old threats.


It's up to you which you prefer most. Just pick up your av with your most preferred levels first.


PS. there is any av which is nr 1. in all these categories!

I use Nod32 as well. Anyways, does anyone know what version of Bitdefender is integrated into Safe'N'Sec 2.0 and does it get the virus definations from Safe'N'Sec or Bitdefender directly?

Folks, I find this thread very interesting, thanks to all contributors. I trialed NOD for one day a couple of weeks ago, was going to trial it again, but now I think I'll give BD a go; I have never had it on my system ... play time!

GOOD GRIEF!! Just went to the BitDefender website: I don't think that I will even trial BD. It costs $64.95 versus $39.00 for NOD. I am sure that BD is an excellent product but so is NOD, and NOD costs $26 less!

I have recently trialed bother bitdefender and nod32. Bitdefender almost brought my computer to its knees( and I have a 3.2 gHz processor and 1 gb of ram) whenever it updated and had to restart(everytime it updates it has to restart), whenever I was using Windows Explorer and it had to scan the files in real-time, or just everyday computing.

Setting up nod32 using BlackSpear's setup and letting it run had almost no impact on my system. However, I know it was working whenever it caught something malicious when I was surfing the internet. I loved the quickness and the speed of the program, but right now I am a little hard up for cash so I am just using Antivir.

Updates occur, most times, daily. have found new viruses on systems before other AV solutions, sometimes 3 -4 days in advance
In 2 years had only 1 pc with problem, (caused by virus infection) but reinstalled and scanned and AVG removed infection

 

The question is NOD or BD... not AVG. Stay on topic but you should know that AVG is a POS, I have yet to see a test where it isn't the poorest performing AV.

For those of you testing NOD32, be sure to use Blackspear's settings after you get it installed. They are in a sticky thread at the top of the NOD32 forum.
