You can export Nod setting from the registry and that should do it...I think. I`ve done that but never tested the reg file that was made, i just saved it to another place.

It's 99% sure that this will be easier with ver. 3. Please don't ask for any further details about v. 3 unless I get a consent from the developer director.

Agreed. This is definitely needed. That there may be an undocumented registry export workaround (even if someone documents it) does not eliminate the need for a straightforward, routine, way to save NOD's settings. End users should not be expected to be familiar with the registry.

I'd like to see the following:
    1) a setup option in the scanner to play nicely -- with results similar to the Unix/Linux "Nice" command. Nod32 really hammers my WinXP Pro notebook (1GB RAM, 1.7GHz Pentium M) when it kicks into a scheduled scan.

    2) method to pause a scheduled scan, or at least to kill it easily from within the NOD32 interface

    3) a check to see if NOD32 is already scanning, before starting a schedule scan or an automatic scan after signature/program updates (and check active processes, not the scanner log)

    4) along with #1, 2 & 3, if an entry in the NOD32 logs shows status "Scanning" and its over 24 hours old, change it to "Interrupted"

I`d like to see it update like a normal AV. When you`re online update, when you`re not don`t. Instead of filling the event log with errors. That`s what I`d like to see.

i think u may have to go to Update > Setup > Advanced and check the box for dial-up, but itd be nice if NOD32 could auto-detect ur internet connectivity and then update.

What I really miss from my previous AV (Panda) was the virus bulletins.
Whenever a new major threat would emerge, a popup like window would appear just above the system clock with information about the threat and where to go if you wanted even more information.

Sure I can just check my email, but this is so much cooler and easier :)

Yup done that and it still does it. Most other AVs know if your online or not and then do their check and that`s what I want to see Nod do. I really don`t think it`s that hard to fix...then again I could stop looking at my event log and that`ll stop it. :)

:) The users must be allow to hide the system tray icon(admin prev. only) so normal users cant make settings modification.

Ryan1F - settings can be password protected already -

    Open "NOD32Control center"
    Click "NOD32 System Tools"
2/3rds of the way down the "General" tab, see the section:

    "Protection of Setup Parameters".

Although hiding the sys-tray icon would be nice, the reason mentioned is something that can already be accomplished, whether the icon is hidden or not...

this has already been asked about. basically it poses a piracy issue for nod32, people could just download the defs and use nod32 trial forever.

This can be fixed by requiring a username/password to even be able to download the def update.
Basically the same way as they do with their commercial versions of NOD.

I don't know if it was suggested, but there's an idea:
For each error that NOD32 display (for example error updating signatures) NOD32 can show you an error number (for example error nº12) and if you clic over error nº12, you are redirected to Eset web site where you can found more information about the problem, possible fixes, etc.
Same with malware, you can clic over the malware name and you'll be redirected to the encyclopedia in case Eset have a description for the malware. This can be useful for ITW malware.
I think NAV had this feature. I'm not so sure as I didn't tested NAV since years.

Didn't read through the entire thread... but I do have one request for 3.0... faster scanning. With the advent of NOD32 supporting more archives etc... scans have slowed down considerably in 2.5 using Blackspear's settings... from 22 to 42 mins on average. Be nice if something similar to KAVs iChecker was present to speed up OD scans... i.e. why scan a file if it's unchanged.

Found this message while trying to read through the entire thread, just wanted to add an "Amen!" to it. More after the quote.

I also had an idea for proactive protection that I call Outbreak Security. This basically entails a new set of settings, pushed along with definitions, that increase a user's scan depth settings to Max levels during a major virus outbreak. The user's normal settings would be stored by the program and restored via a trigger in the defs. Of course, whether or not a user lets NOD control Outbreak Security would be a selectable option. Just an idea...

I'd also like to see NOD32 be able to remove viruses from emails stored in the Outlook Express DB files. With the new OE7 possibly changing the store method, this could be a moot point.

Not just OE... any MS email archive. If it could cherry pick like KAV, it'd be a good move. Having to delete an entire archive (like .pst) because an AV can't pick out an infected email is just plain wrong.

wouldnt that be pointless if our setting are already set to high (blackspear's settings)?

I should have addressed that point in my post. For the small percentage of users like us who do use Blackspear's settings it would be pointless. But I used NOD32 for well over a year before I stumbled on to this place and frankly didn't know how to use the program to the full extent of its capabilities.

I think we always have to take into account that people are going to use a program who really don't know what they're doing with it. While those of us here might never make use of such an option, it might be a major selling point to someone who might otherwise look elsewhere. NOD32 is a configuration beast to the uninitiated; this would be a step towards making it more approachable for new non-expert customers.

    1. Change default http update port to be other than Sharepoint Admin port, ie 8032.

    2. Have clients check that what is at the other end of the port is not NOD32 update and report that rather than crash.

    3. As with 2 above except for unc path. Basically having NOD32 client crash because it doesn't connect to the update server is silly.
