Too defragg or not to defragg

    is it alright too defragg a back up image or leave it the way it is ? windows says i should defragg ? Do i ?

    I wouldn't waste my time defragging a backup file. It's not like you need to have it defragged to get that extra edge of performance from day to day. It's much more important that the tib file be uncorrupted and accessible during disaster recovery, right ?

    You're looking for reliability here, not speed of access. Your time's better spent testing to make sure you can successfully restore from any backups you make.

    He he... well, I had the benefit of reading what others said about it earlier and, IIRC, you were among the ones I read saying the same thing, plover.;)

    Hi Baxter33,

    Based on my experience as a user of TI, Ghost, and currently BootIt NG/Image for Windows, you should not defrag your image files. I have seen quite a few disk images nuked by a defrag. Now that I know better, all my images stay restorable.
