Is it a good Idea to have 2 browsers?

Is it a good idea to have 2 differnet kinds of browers? I was thinking IE6 and Mozilla. Anyone have anythoughts on Mozilla? All responses are wecomed.

Sorry I don't have Mozilla but I cant tell about the following:
First I have IE 6, set by default then I installed Crazy browser, which works along with IE...Later I installed Phoenix--think they changed the name for Firebird now--
I like Crazy browser for it is very accomodating. There are many options you can customize: Cookies, privacy, temporary files, java tools you can add up 19 languages in your tool bar and so much more...
Phoenix or Firebird, is fastest than Crazy Browser and very secure too. If you go on the Browser download page, you'll see many features you can add on to it. I didn't add on more features yet, many of them came along with Crazy Browser, so... I know that many people like Mozilla here. I'm sure they will tell about it sooner or later...

Some people use three, four browsers to suit them. It's up to you. For my personnal needs, two browsers were enough.

I was a big fan of Mozilla since I couldn't stand IEs integration with the os and used Ieradicate to remove it.
Mozilla gives very good control over cookies, popup windows, and scripts. Plus, I think tabbed browsing is fabulous.
However, since I had to go back to the dark ages with a 350mh computer, and upgraded to Mozilla 1.3, it takes FOREVER to load.
I just tried Opera, and couldn't believe the difference in speed.
It's really bugging me, but that has been my only complaint with Mozilla, and it may not be true with a faster computer.

Thanks Douglas and Uguel. I was thinking about trying Mozilla cuz I heard it had some good features on it.

 

You probably want a second browser if your primary is NOT IE.
I'm using Opera and I love it. But there are lots of sites that do not comply with all standards, or that use ActiveX and Jaca applets. Opera has trouble with displaying those sites (and it should ). So IE is my secundary browser for those sites only.
Btw: Opera 7.1 is a quantum leap towards IE compatibilty.
Errr, I do have a third browser, the Bork edition of Opera 7.02 (there were two 7.02 builds...). Great to see MSN with it

I run Opera as default browser (without SUN JVM) and IE with M$ VM when needed, for instance my bank for SUN JVM is not compatible with my bank.

You need anyway IE if you want to run the Windows Updates.

Lots of "browsers" are not really browsers but just a layer on IE : hence, if you use it thinking it's more secure, that's wrong, it inherits all the IE vulnerabilities plus its own if any...

I have few installed; KMeleon, KMeleon using Mozilla 1.4b backend, Firebird 05, Firebird Nightlies, Opera, Mozilla and of course IE6.

I tend to stick to KMeleon and Firebird 05 though.
But I do a bit of checking friends websites and projects so use a variety for validation.

You don't need it absolutely. You can use the Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer to get around it. The only thing is, that you have to install the updates manually. But sometimes even Windows Update doesn't install them correctly -in every way if you install them manually you are encountering less problems overall. But it's certainly easier to use Windows Update...

Alternatively you can use Bigfix!!
I use it and I know at least one other user does, it automatically lists all available updates and fixes and lists info on them without ever needing to approach M$crosofts sites.

Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer is not really trustable, espacially when you run a foreign language. (M$ himself dixit )

If you go on : http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/fr/default.asp?corporate=true with another browser than IE (or a overlayer) you cannot d/l the updates. (I always d/l the updates and dont'use WU online)

Of course you may install from magazines'CD's but always with a long delay.

I use Mozilla and Mozilla Firebird(Phoenix)

Mozilla:
It is slower than Firebird.
There are speed tweaks that can added by typing about:config in the address bar.You modify the settings by typing in new values(numbers) in the related lines.
It does help some even on dialup.I imagine it helps boost speed more on broadband.
The mail and newsgroups function works fast and flawless signing into my POP mail account.
Multi-tabs are nice.
Mozilla uses more resources than Firebird.

Firebird:
I'm running the 4/25 nightly.
It has good speed.
It's basically a bare-bones browser though.
There are some minor bugs in Firebird but I expected that.

I don't have Opera any more,but that's a good alternative browser also.IMO

I am really comfortable without IE and used iradicater to completely wipe it off my system. I still use the old Mozilla1.3 and have found it faster than any of the browsers that i have tried including the new opera release. Not sure why that is but it works really well for me. However I only downloaded the browser and not the rest. In the Edit > Preferences > Advanced> there is a check box to check that keeps Mozilla in memory to allow it to load fast

Tinribs mentioned the Bigfix , It is a really handy programme for windows updates . Unfortunately i cant use it no more as I dumped IE .

 

I use IE6 and Avant Browser ( http://www.avantbrowser.com/ ), which I really like. You might want to check it out.

Well I have just been playing with the MozillaFirebird 0.6 release and It is really good . I can now happily let go my mozilla 1.3 as its faster
been trying out the Thunderbird email as well (its still in Alpha ) but looks as though that will be a very good compliment to MozillaFirebird down the trackz when its trimmed down . But as for the Mozilla Firebird its very nice and fast
