Comparison: TI8 VS TI9

Hi,

I bought TI 9. This was the first True Image I had ever bought. I got in at build 2245, I believe. I read about a lot of people having problems with TI 9 and also praising the virtues of TI8. I bit and went to Compusa and bought TI8 also. I was sure it would be "me lucky charms".

Here's what I've found. Of the 2, I, personally like True Image 9. I think it's a step forward from True Image 8. Probably the difference in different PC configurations is what makes one version better for some than the other. I have very little trouble with either version. That's just my take.

One thing I'm disappointed with is True Image's inability to backup and restore a Linux partition and make it bootable. I have Ubuntu installed on a partition where multiple OS's reside. I have grub installed on that partition to boot Linux. I still retain Drive Image 2000 for that task. Why can Drive Image do it and not True Image? Acronis, if you read this, please make it happen. But all in all, a fine product. At least Acronis keeps on working on their problems. With other vendors you get 1 - maybe 2 updates per life cycle. Keep at it Acronis . . .

FYI, from what I have read on at least one post here in recent times, is that if you purchased TI9 with a valid registration key (and I believe have registered your copy with Acronis) and have had problems with it, Acronis would let you download a fully functional TI8 at no add'l cost (assuming TI8 didn't have that problem). Others can verify.

If you've only got 1 machine, I guess you could give one license to a relative or friend -- wouldn't be a total waste. (although I've not a clue about transfers in the license terms, if you don't charge how could that be wrong ?)

 

One more thing I noticed about the 2 versions: True Image 8 is a good bit snapier than version 9 . . .

I've seen many posts by those with more TI experience than me saying that what's going on with TI9 more or less happened with TI8. I apparently got TI8 after it had "matured to stability". I'm sure I'll prefer TI9 once it gets to the state TI8 was in when I bought it.

 

I agree. Ti9 takes almost 30+ minutes to "verify" backup archive and the same time again to make the archive in the first place.

 

That's interesting. I compared TI8 v. TI9 and the speed at which the same process was completed in both was within seconds of each other. Go figure...

 

I will say that it depends on the task and the OS in question as to the speed. I'm running Windows XP, 2000, 98, and Ubuntu Linux . . .
