I use the open source KeePass. It is very convenient and seems secure.

    No.

    For computer password, I remember.

For passwords like level codes to games, I put in a plain text file then encrypt then store it on my USB Flash drive.

Always used PASSWORD SAFE (which is open source),
i have to use a program because i have hundreds of website
    usernames and passwords only.

Now i switched to PASSWORD DEPOT 2 which is far more advanced,
I guess it has some simularties with ROBOFORM

But i am very happy with it, it works with all browsers,
and it is easy to backup and restore.

And i have file on 2 remote FTP servers which are encrypted with
    Ghost Security's famous CryptoSuite.

The best thing is, dat the passwords are not stored in a browser,
    because i hate that.

And you need to store other Security-keys etc as well.

I can't remember all those Y38$6jk3#5jB35 passwords I generate so I use PINs to store them. I'm evaluating Bookmark Buddy for managing my bookmarks and it can also store passwords for websites.

I'm looking for a program to replace PINs so I can share passwords between my PocketPC and desktop PC. Probably an older of Password Safe until 2.x has been ported.

I prefer Password Safe 1.7.1, the last version by Bruce Schneier (Counterpane Internet Security Inc.). It's really easy to use and it doesn't require an installation. http://www.schneier.com/passsafe.html

This is a pretty old thread but I had a question. I really like KeePass for its ease of use but don’t particularly trust it with all my passwords. I am thinking about buying CryptoSuite and I was wondering if I could use it to encrypt the KeePass database file (which stores all your passwords)? According the help file KeePass encrypts this file itself but I would rather have it done with CS. Would this work?

    Hi Matt;

That isn't a really workable solution. You could of course encrypt the DB file with another utility, but you would have to decrypt and extract the KeePass DB file with what ever secondary program you encrypted it with, to allow KeePass to access it. If you don't totally trust something, I'd suggest looking for a different solution. There are several applications to choose from, both free and paid. Cryptosuite is a good choice ... I personally like and use it. A freeware option you may like (which I also use) is Password Safe - Give it a go, I think you'll like it. ;)

Thanks for the reply, I actually don’t use KeePass use a different password for every website, or account, which means I don’t use it too often. I just use it as a backup incase I ever forget a particular password for a site I don’t visit often. In other words it would not be a big deal for me to de-crypt the DB file first and then open it with KeePass, then re-encrypt it once I am done. I just wanted to know if this would work and it sounds like it will so I should be fine. I think this will provide a very safe solution to store my passwords “just in case” I ever forget one, as it provides an extra layer of security over lets say creating a text file to store all your passwords and encrypting that with CS.

I use KeePass. Checked out the encryption code since the source is available and was happy that it's secure. CS is no more secure when using the same encryption algorithm as KeePass.

As dog said, if you don't trust KeePass in the first place, why use it ?!

I didn't use any password manager to store passwords. I just remember it in my head (as one neuroscientist says... even the fastest computer in the world has no match to a brain of a moron).

My trick is I only uses words and numbers that has great meanings to me. Even if its very long sentences you use as a passwords if it's truly meaningful to you... you won't forget it.

If I didn't write my passwords down somewhere, nothing would work on my computer or anywhere else for that matter. I frequently change the important ones with a password generator app, so it's basically impossible for me to remember them.

However I do have my 'awesome super cool master password' just in case.. :D

FYI, there is another program from SF (same as Password safe program, the one I voted for) called KeePass, however, it's still in its beta stage, see this site here: http://keepass.sourceforge.net
