I usualy go for the underdog but also believe in courage. Not be affraid of who you are.... know what i mean?

I am sure most of the mods here are good people and do watch the posts.

Even though I been here way longer then most of the mods, No one ever asked me what I thought.

I see nothing to Vote for Smokey...it isn't, and never will be a 'Votable' question either way, it is NOT, and never will be, our decision.....at the end of the day we are ALL guests here whether registered or not and as such it is not our place to broach such a question.......It has always been my contention that when you OWN your own Forum then YOUR rules are paramount...'til then it is not anyones place to suggest otherwise.......This Forum was running just fine before a lot of us arrived here and so lets just be happy to be a part of something that enhances our knowledge and brings a smile to our faces along the way.....what more do you need in this life of ours.......The Poll is irrelevant.....

I just read it and I do not see hwer it says guests can not vote on polls.

 

THat's not a TOS issue, that's a software issue. The wsy VB works, only registered accounts can be used to vote in a poll I do believe.

 

I believe that to be right too. For those who don't know, guest posting is pretty limited. As said no voting, smileys, pm's, attachments, and i'm sure other things.

well I came to your site for help for a problem with a virus called security.downldr and unfortunately the advise available at the time did not help me to get rid of it. After some perseverence I did manage to get rid of it and was most pleased to inform you of my good fortune and the method by which I disposed of this problem.

I was not the least bit concerned to register myself as a member though to do this and to be honest, having dealt with other sites did not realise that you didn't have to be a member.

Personally, with the amount of fruitcakes out there I have no problem whatsoever with you requiring membership (at no cost) to protect yourself and you users.

If you have nothing to hide then what is the problem I say. I am not a computer guru by any means so do not know the ins and outs of membership but as a simple user, I have no problem with it.

Even if WildersSecurity is not considering it maybe they should and put it as an Option in the CP so if there are any that do not want to be bothered by Guest questions or anythingy that they may post then they can ignore them. Personally I feel they are just as important as those that sign up. Some have very good questions and I have seen some very good replies from guests. That would leave the option up to the User.

I am a newish member here, but have read without posting for quite some time now, and as I am a regged Acronis user I thought it about time I gave back some support, if only as a member, but I hope in time to be able to offer someone some help with something

I wonder if 'guest' posters could get routed via a stronger filter or something to cut out the silly posters, not that I have seen any as yet, just a thought.

I don't bother with forums (such as one I just clicked on from a member's signature) that require one to join just to see what the forum is about. I don't like forums that require one to join to post, but once in a while, I will join such a forum, if it is the help forum for an application that I use, but not for other more general forums. I far prefer forums such as Wilders and my home site, DSLReports, that allow not only for anon reading of the forums, but anon posting also. I think it is very important to allow anon posting and reading of forums.

I think that when I first came here that I posted anon because I wasn't sure at that point that I wanted to join. (I know that I read these forums for a while before I decided to join). I think as long as anon posters abide by the TOS that it is fine if they wish to post before they join or even if they never join. There are a very large number of forums that I will never even know if I might like because they are so arrogant that they force one to join before even perusing the forum. Then there are the forums that are less arrogant but still are too full of themselves because they do allow reading of the forums but no posting without joining. I don't think one should be forced to join in order to post in any forum worth its salt.

 

Letting non registered post works well. Registration does not really decrease TOS violations. People that want purposefully violate TOS will do so and when they get kicked out, they just re-register.

Also, being a guest does not make your post less relevent.

With one exception, I ignore forums that demand registration. Lots of times they state that registration with email address is required so they can notify you for post replies or for password resets. Phony arguments. If registration is not required then password would not apply and post replies are optional on those forums anyway.

So I wonder why a lot of those forums really want email address registration? To sell or spam?

Actually we require an email address, as a security precaution in regards to changing passwords. You need to following the link in the email generated by board software created from the password change to confirm it was indeed the actual member who made that change, and wasn't caused by an unauthorized user.

We won't ever spam anyone, and I'm confident that the vast majority of message boards won't either. The email function here is used for only 4 purposes, the security check mentioned regarding password changes as well as confirmation of account creation, notifications of PMs and thread responses if you so choose in your user options, a Birthday email if you have included your birthday in your userCP, and last for administrative purposes if ever needed, such as a domain change (which wouldn't happen here) I'm just using it as an example.

Guests are not always trouble-makers.

Many 'guests' end up purchasing DCS programs as well as other security software after having their questions resolved and this is good for business hence the hesitancy to exlude the public. Isolating the general public cannot be good for newcomers who may be interested in buying some programs but want to find out more before doing so.

This forum generates a lot of interest in and sales for DCS programs and others such as NOD 32 and True Image.
