Creating an image and also excluding files

Is it possible with TI 9.0 to create an image of a partition but selectively exclude files. When I bought the upgrade this is the one reason I bought it for, but I can't see how to do it.

Also, how do I look at the files in a file based backup - when I try to select it with TI it says "is not an image, cannot be plugged".

You can restore the single file from a file backup, but you cannot explore it. Please read the User's Guide (Chapter 5. Restoring the backup data).

That was a waste of money then.

I have tried doing a file based recovery and nothing happens i.e it says it has successfully completed, but then there is nothing there. What am I doing wrong - or is the file based backup completely untested ? I have tried restoring the whole backup set and also individual files.

Yea, I found this out yesterday.

One of my partitions only has previous images. To be sure I got the MBR I had to select that partition as part of the backup. Even though there was no real reason to.

So if your using one of your partitions to hold previous images then the backup includes them. This makes for some really large images.

I bought 9.0 for the same reasons: I thought I would be able to exclude some files from a full backup. But that's not possible :-(.

It is not possible to map a file backup to a drive. Which I also expected.

The file backup is useless, if you need to restore the date of files, because it does not restore the dates of files. How stupid is this ? Good old winzip restores dates. How can a company that creates professional backup software have missed that little detail? I must say, I lost my trust in acronis products.

Summary: I am very very frustrated that I spend the money for the update .

P.S.: Acronis Support: can you just stop saying "Thank you for choosing Acronis Disk Backup Software.". I find this annoying (this has nothing to do with my frustration ). If you read it in every thread it becomes a meaningless phrase and it feels like sarcasm....

Also, can you tell me if I do a file based backup of a whole partition (including hidden files) and then I restore it to an empty partition, and then write an MBR, do I end up with a bootable image of the original partition.
