How to manually uninstall kaspersky 4.5?

I installed kaspersky personal 4.5.0.94 [english] on winxp sp2 english version, during installation i chose custom installed and not selected script checker and control center components. At the end of installation it asked me to restart computer, I chose yes, somehow the process freezed at this point the computer didn't restart. I press ctrl + alt + del to end the kaspersky installation process forcifully, i restarted the computer and kaspersky monitor is running well, scanner and updater is running well. Somehow i thought the installation is not complete so i tried to uninstall and trying to reinstall.

From control panel , I chose to remove kaspersky, but it gave me the error message:
    http://tinypic.com/f2opyp.jpg

    -----------
    Error Number : 0x80004005
    Description: Unspecified error
    Setup will now terminate
    -----------

I restart window and enter safemode and try to uninstall, the same error message again.

I tried to install from kaspersky personal 4.5.0.94 setup file, the same error message again.

I tried to install kaspersky 5.0, it said kaspersky 4.5 is already installed, ask me to uninstall it and kaspersky 5.0 setup file cannot help to uninstall kaspersky 4.5.

So, how do I uninstall kaspersky personal 4.5.0.94 at the above situation, mannually, violently?

This is a new winxp sp2 installed, prior to this, only installed avg antivirus, but I already uninstalled it, and no other antivirus ever installed before.

    Thanks

After searching the Kav website all I could find was to make sure that the antivirus is turned off. Right click the icon next to the clock in the taskbar and choose exit and then try to remove it in add/remove

    1. Before install kaspersky, backup your regedit.
    2. Before uninstall kaspersky, go to Drive C to program files to kaspersky, record some name of exe and dll.
3.After uninstall kaspersky, use RegSeeker to search "kaspersky" and above mentioned name you recorded. Check them carefully and delet them.
    4. Maybe you should import your backup regedit.

:D Maybe it is not a good idea. I think there are many experts here.

    System Restore won't work?

If not try the specific KAV 4.5 cleaner..

Ignore the fact that it states that you can only use it after removing KAV 4.5 in the Read Me.

Just to be on the safe side, take a registry backup/system restore before trying the KAV cleaner. Keep us posted.

You can use the free Erunt very simpel to use and most likely you will not have to use the backup.

Safemode, in case you don't know how, is accesed in one of two ways:

    Windows XP

If Windows XP is the only operating system installed on your computer, booting into Safe Mode with these instructions.
If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power
Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.
Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.
Ensure that the Safe mode option is selected.
Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.
When you are finished with all troubleshooting, close all programs and restart the computer as you normally would.

To use the System Configuration Utility method
    Close all open programs.
Click Start, Run and type MSCONFIG in the box and click OK
The System Configuration Utility appears, On the BOOT.INI tab, Check the "/SAFEBOOT" option, and then click OK and Restart your computer when prompted.
The computer restarts in Safe mode.
Perform the troubleshooting steps for which you are using Safe Mode.
When you are finished with troubleshooting in Safe mode, open MSCONFIG again, on the BOOT.INI tab, uncheck "/SAFEBOOT" and click OK to restart your computer

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Many times in order to remove a piece of spyware or for troubleshooting and diagnostic purposes, you'll have to start Windows in Safe Mode. While in Safe Mode, only specific programs and files needed to run the operating system are loaded. Some functions, such as connecting to the Internet, will not be active in Safe Mode and a standard video driver will be loaded causing a washed out look and a possible change in resolution. However, because just the essential programs and files are loaded in Safe Mode, this allows us to remove some spyware, adware, viruses and such that cannot

Start>Help and Support>Pick a task>Undo changes to your computer with System restore. Then find a restore point BEFORE you installed KAV.

Take a look here for screenshots to run through the process. Just click on NEXT in each SR Window.

If SR does not work, slfan, then follow Don's instructions to enter safe mode to use the specific KAV cleaner.

Thank you blackcat and Don, I did the system restore to the point before I installed kaspersky personal 4.5.0.94, and it works. Kaspersky personal 4.5.0.94 is gone after the system restore.

    Thanks again

Good to hear that you have resolved your problem, slfan ;)

When installing new software I would always make a NEW Restore point just in case something goes wrong.

    In addition I would also consider;

    1. Backing up the registry with something like ERUNT.

    2. For better long-term use than simply System Restore, consider a roll-back program such as FirstDefense-ISR or an Imaging program.

    3. Upgrading to KAV 5.

For all things Kaspersky take a look here and visit the Kaspersky forums where Don & co. will give you a warm welcolm.
