Yeah , sorry I missed that one.

However if you feel that members may be interested in having another thread on the subject after almost 1 1/2 years - then we may continue or you may like to take this out.

    Regards.

As far as I am concerned , my all time favourite has been George Bernard Shaw - the Irish playwright and one of the founder members of fabian Socialism in UK.

When one of the characters of his play "Pygmalion" is asked whether he doesn't have any morales , he is replied " Can't 'fford them guv'nor , can't 'fford them ".

Prefaces written by Shaw are as famous - if not more - as the plays. In one of them he writes "Those who can , they do - those who can't , they teach."

The sentiments expressed in the plays & prefaces are as valid to day as they were when they were written almost 80-100 yrs ago. He received the Noble Prize in , I think 1924 , which he accepted but the money was donated to the cause of better cultural understanding between England and Sweden.

    A truly remarkable man.

Of course , "The Old Man and the Sea" is a classic in Hemingway's style "to distrust adjectives" but the writings of Hemingway about his early Parisian days in " The Moveable Feast" are somehow closer to my heart.

Here's a picture of young Hemingway in uniform.
