    I i wish to point out that Team Eset in NO WAY forbade me to mention things said in support mails. They just didnt want anyone to copy and paste the EXACT words of their employee. A rewrite with my own words was ok to do.

    The reasoning behind this might be cuz its possibly quite hard for ppl like Happy Bits or Bytes or whatever to hmm write emails in a strictly officiall sort of way - ie to remove all kinds of geek humour etc etc from it ;). In support mails such things work fine - they build a personal connection to the customer. Its another case with press releases. Uhh ill stop now before i really get myself banned.

    Oh andl sorry for the harsh words - I got home and got a bit angry at beeing banned for no reason as I saw it. I dont really think straight when that happens hehe - didnt even occur to me it might be somekind of error in some bord software.

    That would be illegal as it is a violation of the 1st Amendment by preventing Free Speech. Even though a company is not located(Headquartered) in the U.S. it must abide by our laws when it's products are advertised,sold or used within the U.S. and it maintains facilities within the U.S. Prior to adding such a clause to your Legal notice and disclaimer, the Eset Legal team is advised to become familiar with the Electronic Communications Privacy Act of 1986 (Title 18 USC Part I Chap. 119 Sec 2510-2522) which in part states;

    (b) A person or entity providing electronic communication
    service to the public may divulge the contents of any such
    communication -

    (i) as otherwise authorized in section 2511(2)(a)
    or 2517 of this title;

    (ii) with the lawful consent of the originator or
    any addressee or intended recipient of such communication;

    Because in the legal caution they do not mention any limitations on the intended recipient of the email, that is because there are none. It was addressed to him so it is therefore his property. Copyrights are not even part of the issue, Copying the user manual and a rebranding would be an example of copyright infringement. Copyrights would neither be practical nor given for emails.

    As for the concept of precedent not being important, clearly you do not work in the legal field. Precedent is perhaps even more important than the actual black and white written law, precedent is derived from rulings/decisions of how the courts are interpreting/applying the law. Precedent is of prime importance in the legal field.

    Oh man, forget about laws and s**t.
    There is a one simple and polite rule for internet usage that you NEVER post PM's, emails, IRC or IM logs on forums or blogs without permission of all participating users.

    It's as simple as that. You don't need any laws or anything to get it why it's meant to be this way...

    Yes you are correct RejZoR, However I was responding to to mrtwolman's suggestion in post #8 that the OP broke some sort of law by doing what he did which he clearly did not.

    Then again mrtwolman in post #27 seems to imply that he has a management role in Eset and suggested that Eset will modify their Legal notice/disclaimer to state the idea that posting replies from support would violate the company poilcy and would thereby be illegal, this is clearly a violation of the ECPA as well as a few other laws regulating corporate practices here in the states and such an idea would bring some legal difficulties to the company, which I am trying to prevent as I am a NOD user myself.

    I thought all he made was a joke. Annyway like I wrote before I know I did not break any laws - i have a friend whos sort of an expert on these kinds of things.

    But like RejZoR said not everything is up to law - for instance its not against the law here in Sweden to spit in a cops face when hes giving u a ticket. The cop cant arrest you for it. Weird as it may seem heh - but i try not to do it anyway...

    But i still maintain that posting on forums of a companys bad behaviour in support matters etc etc is a good thing. And I wont stop doing that. There is a fine line sometimes to what is considered politeness and whats considered beeing a coward.

    If everyone just complained more etc etc - used our buying power in creative ways - the world would see less **** then it does today.

    Ladies and Gentlemen, I think we have had about enough of the legalese dancing, time to return to the topic at hand, and remember this is the Nod32 Support Forum, not Legal 101.

    Cheers

    Excellent advice, as long as you are satisfied then life is good. Spitting in a cop's face (or any other person for that matter) here would not be a very good idea at all. Perhaps I took things too seriously and for that I apologize. Was your original question answered by the way? I never really saw an answer

    Editted Sorry Blackspear I was thinking that and composing my answer as you were typing.!!

    Acctually if u spit some other person in the face it can prob lead to somekind of lawsuit. But there was some case when some guy spat in the face of some female cop and got arrested for it and in the end it was the cop who had no reason to arrest him cuz spitting a cop in the face wasnt considdered "assault on an officer" or whatever its called in those Hollywood movies...

    So long as it comes back on topic this thread is fine to remain open, the subject being: Latest WinRAR SFX archive Support...

    I don't see an answer being given to the original question.

    Cheers :D

    Just to put things right, my conclusion that the last WinRAR archives were not supported was premature and was not true. Have just tested it. Since all's been cleared up, the thread will be closed now.
