Recommendations for firewall?

Could I get some opinions on which is the best firewall to use in conjunction with NOD32 on Win 98/ME? Thanks!

 

I use Look'n'Stop Personally very light on Resources and there Support is right in this Forum and Plays nice with NOD32!!

Hello, I use without any bother ZA 4.5 free. Very stable.

 

I have to agree with Triple Helix, LNS is very light on resources, efficient and plays nicely with NOD32

Sygate arn't bad.

 

Kerio 2.1.5 for my old machine runs nice with NOD.

 

Sygate's been consumed by Symantec, I discovered yesterday... And I couldn't find the free version on their site - it's probably there, but I couldn't find it on a quick look. With Kerio discontinuing their personal firewall soon, will 2.1.5 still be available?

I like the good old router with NAT...lightest resources of all, usually never conflicts with any software.

 

Another vote here for Kerio 2.1.5 with NOD32.

for ur config, id go with looknstop, but i like outpost better.

 

WinME + NOD32 + Outpost Firewall PRO worked fine (when I had it on my second HDD).

 

People keep lauding Outpost as the best firewall around and it might indeed be a good firewall if it works on your system.

When I first downloaded it I had no problems for a couple of weeks and bought it. Then I started getting problems while I was surfing the net, for no reasons it would just refuse to connect to certain websites, usually rebooting would solve the problem but then you don't want to go through this hassle every other day.

On their forum I discovered I wasn't the only one suffering from this strange behaviour and nobody (excellent people moderating their forum) could do anything about it (I'm not exactly a beginner but I can't see myself studying rules and logs for days having bought a product that should allow internet surfing out of the box).

I'm trialling Look'n'Stop, and so far I love it: I can zip through websites a lot faster than Outpost (their new feature, the Antispyware plugin is slowing down the overall performance IMO) and most importantly it hasn't blocked any website from connecting while surfing. Booting and shutting down are also much faster than with Outpost.

I'll almost certainly buy Look'n'Stop, but this time I'll wait for the full trial period to end.

 

OF works great with default settings, which I used to have more than a year. Then I started to tweak it and I found out, that some webpages will not run without javascripts or they will not work properly when cookies, referrers or other things are disabled. OF also block net, when some dll modifies aplications memory (like Spysweeper or Spyware Doctor, it has to be add to exclusions) or OF also block a webpage, when it scans ports (for 5 min by default).

Any Plugin can be disabled (Antispyware), I use no realtime antispyware at all.

Basically all firewalls do the job, even free, other firewalls have only other additional settings.
And it is up to user, what additional settings does he need, what firewall does he choose.

 

I use ZA Pro 6.0 and have never had any issues, infact has been very good.
