What is Acronis trying to achieve with releasing software to "secure" your computer if that software is insecure itself o_O My own experience as well as the experiences in this forum show that the operation of backing up your HD/partition is not safe since exploring such images results in widespread "Image is corrupt" messages. This indicates that v9.0 cannot perform the basic operation it has been created for. Acronis will be driven out of the market by its own "make money quick" scheme, abusing customers to test its faulty pre-release software. However, Acronis advertises TI 9.0 as software (...) "that CAN protect your entire system" (...). No garantees whatshowevero_O

Actually as many have found out, that error message is itself erroneous, as the image has been created correctly, it is the restore CD that has a problem.

For those lucky enough like me, the answer was to use the TI8 boot CD and all would be restored. As of this build I can now restore using theTI9 CD and also using the BartPE plugin.

I agree that this is a bug and shouldn't be happening, but that is not the same as saying the product doesn't work at all. Also as we are all aware, for those people where the product does work 'off the shelf' most are unlikely to write to this forum and say so -- much like the newsgroups for MS, those who do not get the BSD and other problems, don't write into the newsgroup.

I can't help but agree with you. It's annoying when games developers release unfinsihed software yet usually the consequences of this is your game crashes and you lose your progress. Here with software of this nature failures can be very serious for the user and this software is aiming itself at the less computer literate person so dealing with disasters is very difficult for them.

Currently software developers hide behind what most people consider to be unreasonable disclaimers. There are good argumuments for this being the case from a developers point of view. However I do believe that at some point in the future when people pay for certain types of software (backup software being one of them) then the blanket disclaimer will not be appliable.
Essentially the disclaimers say they are not responsible for anything at all ever which is clearly unreasonable.

If this software was designated "beta" and in a trial period with no option to purchase it yet then I would say "fair enough",, but it's not - they are selling this product with prior knowledge that it can break peoples systems.

Only Ghost and owning multiple machines saved me from the previous build of this product but I approached it as a beta backup program and perpared beforehad. Someone just downloading and trusting it can find they lose everything - well they assume because they are paying for it then it should be working :doubt: . People also seem to assume off bat that utilities work.. not sure why though?

Yes it's very difficult making software that works with all setups and various driver installs, yet in the area of backup software you don't have the luxuary of field testing it - you certainly should attach a "beta" tag to warn people its got an increased chance of failure - here its being touted as a finished product?

However saying this the software seems to be getting much better with each build so the field testing is probably reducing the effective overall development time - but a what cost to peoples machines / time /effort and Acronis's reputation?. Myself i'd never trust any Acronis package again for fundamental tasks - such as partitioning - fortmatting etc.. why should I?. Acronis 2289 currently seems to be working on my test rig .... but I still don't trust it and thats the point. I've still got a ghost image of my test rig that i'll certainly be keeping hold of.
