I am unable to restore an individual file from a disk image backup in True Image 9.0.

I get as far as the page that says select the file to be restored. The Explorer tree that is displayed includes my D drive with the name of the last volume in my CD archieve. Following that is "C drive" which is the drive I backed up.

There is a box with an x in it next to the C drive, but when I click on this to show the subfolders, the x disappears and no subfolders appear

You are using the Restore feature which restores entire partitions, not individual files and folders.

Start the EXPLORE function, select the backup you want to restore individual files from and allow TI to mount it with it's own drive letter.

Use Windows Explorer to copy the files you want to the folders on your hard drive.

I'm sorry, but I cannot follow what you are saying.

After selecting the restore option, I did select the Restore specified files or folders option.

I am not sure what you mean by selecting the Explore function, I believe TI 8.0 has such a function under Tools. TI 9.0 doesn't have an Explore function that I know of.

Wierd - Doesn't look like that for me (2,289)....

For me there is a "plug in" option which mounts the TIB as a drive letter, then you can copy files from it.

Copy files from the mounted drive appears to work correctly and keep the date.

There is also the option to restore individual files - Select recovery, pick the TIB, select "to alternate paths", pick a new folder, then browse and select files. They get restored to their original paths, prepended by the path you selected.

For me, up to TI 9 version 2,277, files restored like this from FAT32 were truncated to a multiple of 4096 bytes, and ones from NTFS were the correct length but corupted.

Support just gave me version 2,289 and that appears to be working (and with old backup images!). Though is still fairly useless because it restores all files with todays date!!!!

I would be tempted to stick to full partition restore, or "plug in" the TIB and copy individual files off using windows.

    Good Luck

    MSP,

I have build 2277, latest available to me.

I tried the Plug In option. I got to the Plug Image Wizard which assigns the drive letter to my archieve. I only have one partition - my C drive. It assigned it to the E drive. I then clicked on Proceed. The hand on the timer went around for a short while, and then I got the following message "Cannot assign a drive letter to a partition from the backup"

    Thanks for your feedback.

Which option did you use for the backup image or files and folders?

I haven't tried the F&F as yet, but as others have written above if you backed up using the image option, then mounting should work and then use Windows Explorer (or similar) to drag and drop the file.

As I understand the help file, if you have used F&F backup, then when you select 'recovery' and pointing to wherever you backed the files up to, then you should find the *.tib file which will expand to show all the files in that backup, from which a selected file can be chosen.

If you used image then I can say definitely, that you will only see the *.tib file, as this file expects to be restored as a full image.

    Bodgy,

The backup I'm trying to restore from was created as an image file. I used Windows Explorer to restore the file as suggested and that worked. Thanks

I certainly agree with your last sentence.

I have also tried backing up and restoring with the F&F option and that worked okay.
