I noticed today a post about a new App by Javacool. EULAlyzer javacoolsoftware https://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=97294 This looks an interesting App in the light of all the issues that there have been, and continue to be with EULA's for many people. I do however remember a tread in February on here about this very topic. I did a search and found it here below. I wonder if this where the inspiration came from to code it. Anyway it's good to see an App like this turn up. I havn't had time to try it out yet, but i have DL'd it. . . . Idea for new security program I have an idea for a new security program which wouldnt be too hard to code that could be given away for free or as an add on to other security programs. Basically the program would sit resident on the computer until the user tryed to install a program, it would then come alive and scan the programs install for a End User License Agreement. Once found it would scan the text for carefully hidden words that may be used by spyware, scumware.. companies to carefully conceal the programs intentions, ie - pop ups, redirects, installing other programs. I mean how many different words could they use to describe such things and lets be honest, knowbody reads the long End User License Agreement to see what they are agreeing to. If any words were found that could indicate spyware, scumware... the program would simply alert the user to be careful about what they are agreeing to and a basic run down on how these companies get their rubbish onto peoples computers. An advanced version could show extracts of the text around the suspect words... giving the user a better chance to decide. Would be a very useful program and not too hard to code. https://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=68262 . . . StevieO
Hi, Actually, EULAlyzer has been in development for quite a while, but that post did give it a boost up the priority list. (At any point in time, I'm usually working on quite a few different programs.) And I'm glad to hear you've downloaded it - please do let me know what you think once you've tried it. Best regards, -Javacool
Question is do you have a trial version of the Pro version ? Would like to see that so as I would like to try out the feature that it has to automatically read the EULA without us having to put it in. I think we ALL would like to see that to have a full functioning Pro version for a trial run. Ty. Willie
I managed to miss this great application until yesterday when Calamity Jane mentioned it in a thread at dslreports. So, I downloaded it and just now I tried it out on the infamous Netscape 8 EULA. WOW! This is a great tool. I had to wade through every page of that tiny print of about 80 pages of that very long Netscape 8 EULA when it became available. That is the most invasive EULA I have encountered that is not considered malware (but it actually is malware). I sure wish I had this tool then. It made it so easy to locate all the nasty stuff in the Netscape EULA and the tool rates the degree of badness too. Great tool, Javacool.
