I installed NOD32 on unpached machine and it got infected with Rbot.

I know that it is because of patch but why NOD did not protect against it? It was updated and it detected virus but virus infected my PC and NOD could not get rid of it.
PC was shutting down for 59seconds.

I removed it from safe mode.

My only question is why NOD did not block that virus and protect against infectiono_O

It doesn't matter what av you have if the systems totaly unpatched its going to get infected at some stage.
No av can protect you 100% and the chances catching a virus on a un-patched system are greatly increased. A av can’t exactly block or protect you when the system has critical flaws that need to be patched, sure a av might prevent and fix infection but its only a matter of time before your system is reinfected and riddled with virus if you continue unpatched.

So patch the system ASAP. Make sure you also have a decent firewall runnng also.

I have SP2 downloaded and burnt to disk incase of emergencies-formats-and it saves having to go online to get the latest patches.

    Hi stormin:

You may want to take a look at the setup guide here.

What was the installed version of NOD32?
