I am very happy with both V8 and V9.
With v8, backup tib indeed saved my life and pain when booting was failed.
I feel that backup seems to be about twice slower with v9 than with v8.
That is not big deal, though. Narusato

Well, the slowdown in image creation is what prompted me to revert to version 8. I found the file-based backup to be e-x-t-r-e-m-e-l-y slow. I could image and then mount an entire 1.5GB data partition in less time.

I forgot to mention about the backup of files/folders. I agree with mark7. It was soooo slow that I stopped doing it. I don't think I will ever use filer/foler baclup with v9. Sarutaro

#3 all the way. So far the poll is definitely not in favor of v9 with 58% sticking with v8 and only 12.5% completely satisfied with v9. I can't wait to see how this develops as more people respond.

#3, but I wish I had Version 8 to fall back on. :'(

Am thinking about opting for a refund and buying version 8 from newegg.

I had to delete the acronis secure zone as my comp restarted every time I tried to access it.
Other than that it has worked well apart from only working from the boot disk on the safe option.

On my system I don't seem to be able to get Version 9 to verify or restore from a Boot CD. It will verify fine when in normal mode (Booted in Windows XP) and will verify with a V8 boot disk. I am sure they will get the kinks out of 9. But for now I am back to 8 which works great for me.

Perhaps the percentages for "Latest build of version 9 is working great for me! Way to Go ACRONIS!" and "I've got some issues with version 9, but I can at least reliably image and restore my drive" will improve as newer TI v9 builds are released and issues are addressed by Acronis...

One reason I wanted to limit the poll to one week was to get a current snapshot. It might be meaningful for another similar poll in a month or two if Acronis actually fixes the problems.

Qualify/justify/indemnify it any way you want; 20% satisfaction on rollout is DISMAL performance for any software release.

Reason I am staying with TI v8 is not just the "bugs" in v9. I do not care for the new GUI, and the new features do not bring any "value added" for this user.

It is nothing new in the software world for a new version to be released that disappoints and has loyal users staying with the previous release.

Unfortunately, due to marketing and what-other reasons, the practice of not releasing a new build (no new dollars from exisiting customer base) and instead going to a major version update (new dollars) is becoming more commonplace.

Case in point (IMO relevant here in this TI thread because Acronis also makes that) is Acronis Privacy Expert. I got a free upgrade to v8 because v7 still had issues when Acronis decided to release the next "build" as v8 rather than a new v7 build. Now we've learned that PE v8 development will not address these issues either, and a new PE v9 is due out by the end of October. Will PE v9 address the outstanding issues of PE v7 & v8?

Your guess is as good as mine, but a year is enough time I think, and my engineering support division (my time testing the product) and my marketing division (my wallet) have told me to move on...

Any poll taken from a support site is going to be biased toward dissatisfaction. Most satisfied customers don't even know about this site. However, the trend in satisfaction over time is still relevant. I remember the dismal state of the product with the rollout of TI8, especially lack of RAID support and worse, lack of staff at Acronis with no answers from them for weeks at a time. Hang in there and things will improve.

  17. I adopted a policy early in the TI9 mess of staying with T8 until an
acceptably fixed build of TI9 was released. 2277 has a date of
October 3, after I decided to sit back and wait. Is 2277 truly
fixed for the Win 98SE user (SNAPMAN bug fixed, install completes
so that product can be used, to name the two worst 98SE problems)?
I'd like to hear from other 98SE users here. Thanks.

Meanwhile, keep me in the "8 for now" camp.

Stay away from 9. I wish I had a past experience with their previous releases but I dont. Tried different builds, the product would not work after install. Support got back with me after 4 days... Now I am having a hard time getting a refund. Put me down for # 4.

Please put me in the 2nd group. I have some problems with the Windows version but the recovery CD works as it is supposed to and it does it faster than TI 8 did.

I was looking at TI as a replacement for Norton Ghost 9 only for the reason I want to get away from Symantec products.

But I have to admit that Ghost is a lot better IMO.

Oh well.... I guess I'll upgrade to Ghost 10 and accept all the extra services that I will have to run. Leave it to Symantec.

Your opinion is quite wrong when compared to TI8 I'll have you know. Good luck to you with Sillimantec and their Merry Bloat Code Monkeys.

Good luck with Ghost 10. I paid for Ghost 9 for the simple reason that it takes the pain out of rotating sets of backups. HOWEVER, I could get it to install on only one of my XP machines. On the other, there is some problem with DEP (Device Execution Prevention) that's a feature that came with SP2, and Ghost won't run at all. A dozen posts to Symantec support got me some replies but NO results and NO refund. Like I said, good luck, but I'm back to TI8. It requires a lot more management in making multiple rotating backup sets, but, it WORKS.

You should be able to solve that yourself. Just disable DEP in the boot.ini.

    Change: "noexecute=optin" to "noexecute=alwaysoff"

If you don't no where it is. Go to My Computer/Tools/Folder Options/View

Check "show hidden files and folders." Uncheck "hide hidden operating system files."

Put me down for #3, went back to TI8 last week. Acronis Tech Support keeps promising a fix, but as we all know nothing yet.
