I'm not going to read through 150 replies but maybe someone here remember if someone recommended it. I would like to have the ability to exclude folders from full backup - such as desktop. I use my desktop often for temporary large files. - feature was implemented

    My wishlist:

    1. Ability to browse file/folder backups and mount them as images.
    2. Warning that creating an Acronis startup recovery manager will modify the MBR and affecting dual-booting systems. Acronis need to get off the high horse a little touting their "benefits" without informing consumers of the possible risks.
    3. Fix broken links / buttons that don't work because you try to do something the program doesn't support.
    4. Auto-update / check for updates within the program itself. - feature has been already requested
    5. Faster Acronis servers.
    6. A warning that digitalriver's "extended download' service is their own service and that one can still d/l the original file from Acronis direct.
    7. Some basic customer orientated approaches rather than pure marketing. For instance - releasing software that's still "beta" - whether Norton 10.0 beats you or not.
    8. Fix all the bugs requested in this forum ASAP please.

I like the idea if a wish list.

As a new user who backs up to CDs, my wish would be to allow a backup to continue if an error is encountered for a CD. For example, I was backing up hard drive and the backup encountered an error on the 9th CD, terminating the backup. if TI could somehow set breakpoints at the beginning of each CD started, possibly the backup could be restarted.
    thanks,
    david

I wish TI would handle Image Names like the old Powequest Drive Image program.

I have about 6 partitions on my computer, with Drive Image I could select all partitions to be backed up and it would save the image names as the drive letters (example C_Drive, D_Drive, etc...). So each partition/drive was a seperate file not one large image like TI (mybackup).

I really only do full backups and sometimes I want to do all drives at the same time and then do seperate drives later as needed. The one file name approach is kind on inconvenient for me even though I think TI is a great program. - feature has been already requested

    Thanks,

    Doug

It would be nice to have a List with the Hardware (Controllers...) which are supportet by TI. Informations about new Builts at the Update Page should show what Kind of Hardware Support is added with this Build...not only a notice "Better hardware Support". - feature has been already requested

Sorry for my bad english... :)

It would be nice to have a program that WORKS correctly! I'm using TI since version 6, and after buying TI 9 going back to TI 7!!!!! Sad, but I'm tired of playing, have some work to do.

Accurate estimates of Incrementals. Maybe that's fixed in the new release?

Right now in v8.903 there is an incomplete english sentance message that warns that estimates are not accurate for incrementals. o_O

I totally agree with you there! My workflow is like this:
alldrives.tib for the entire full backup
    C&D.tib for laptop drives
what I am wondering is if I just updated the alldrives.tib with incrementals of C&D selected, if I would save space? Can anyone tell me what's best to do? Have one file for all drives, and increment just the ones I want to along the way, or to keep them seperated like this. My C&D drives are the ones changing all the time, and not my external USB drives included in alldrives.tib. I use the comments box to document what I did, but heck if I can make sense of it later. Is that clear? thanks!

I would prefer an alternate, less expensive version of Acronis True Image without all the extra features that many simple home users do not need. Perhaps this simple version could only have :

    1. Full disc imaging only, can image to cd's, dvd's, external hard drives, and the Acronis Secure Zone. Keep Recovery Manager (press "F-11" feature).
    2. No automatic task scheduler, but you could create a task, and then run it manually whenever you wish.
    3. No individual file or folder back-ups or restores.
    4. No ability to manage windows system restore.
    5. No duplicate options listed in different spots on the main program page.

This simplified version would be welcomed by many users I am sure, and would be more stable and error free. That is all many people are looking for....a reliable, and simple, disc imaging program which is well tested and error free.

I Agree With thebigdintx, It would be great If acronis could release A Stripped down Version Of True Image But Includes The Rescue CD Builder As Well, Is very time consuming for me to download the entire program when All I Ever use is the Rescue CD To Do Backups And Restores, Some Imaging programs out there Do Offer Stripped down Versions of there programs .... or an alternate would be, include A Downloadable ISO Image file under the users account so we don't have to download the entire program if all we want is the rescue CD

Agreed. Can you provide a link to an ISO of the bootable CD of TI. Currently users of only the bootable rescue media have to install TI to gain access to the new bootable CD.

Please provide a link for this ISO in the users area.

Support for RAID1+0 on NVRAID (e.g. nForce4 chipsets) would be appreciated. Apparently striping is supported, but stripe-mirroring is not. This causes all 4 drives to be visible for restoring images rather than the one RAID volume.

This may be caused by a limitation of the Adaptec md driver 0.90.0 implemented in the boot media created by True Image 9.0.

I forgot to include keeping the ability to create a Rescue CD in my list.....I would definately want the ability to create a Rescue CD.

To be perfectly honest I havent looked through the hundreds and hundreds of posts in this thread, so its possible its been suggested before.

But my suggestion would be to expand on the current new thing in True Image 9 backing up individual folders\files.

But somehow making it possible to back up individual files\folders that also include registry keys etc. In other words programs, applications, in particular for me games.

See this thread for the example, which could also be applied to any program that gets updated.

SATA RAID SUPPORT - Silicon Image 3114 Raid 5

    SATA RAID SUPPORT

Raid built into motherboards has become commonplace. It is imperative that Acronis support such features. My motherboard is an Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe with 4 SATA on the Sliicon Image 3114 set up as Raid 5. I'm very upset that The product does not support my relatively high end but standard hardware. - feature was implemented

I agree 100%. I'm still using TI 7. I've tried every build of version 8 and now version 9, but I still USE version 7.

Might it be possible to schedule the cloning of the active drive to a secondry drive. ( no doubt one would have to reset the scheduling of acronis in the cloned drive to zero)
this provides the facility to always a virtually mirrored drive that one can boot to instantly.

It is hard to read all wish list posts, but I wonder if anything has been converted to functional enhancement by development team.

Some of mine may be repeats of other (sorry):
    • optional Acronis scheduler - I don't like to have another process in memory when I am not using it at all - feature has been already requested
    • option to delete files/folders from created image - feature has been already requested
    • Acronis should remember job settings when executed from Windows and forcing reboot e.g.: - feature has been already requested
      - in Windows I am trying to restore C: partition
      - TI goes through image restore options and force reboot
      - boot into Acronis TI loader
      - and again I need to select file, image, partition to restore what was done before already. Very annoying.
    • rename "Recovery" to "Restore" back in TI 9 - feature has been already requested
    • new version of Bart PE plug-in
    • option to use overlay images: restore first, then 2nd, then 3rd e.g. 1st is operating system, 2nd: drivers for specific PC, 3rd: apps/data etc.

Agreed. The naming is all over the place generally. I posted about this yesterday.

    Here's my wishlist:

    1) Support for burning your image to DVD. - feature was implemented
    2) Support for creating an ISO of the bootable disk media. Its sorta lame that you have to have the software installed on the same machine that has the CD/DVD writer. I don't know about everyone else, but NONE of our servers have CD/DVD burners.
    3) Better support for OS'. If they are going to take mention to it running on a particular OS (for instance Gentoo Linux), then support it. If its just going to be "best effort", then drop having it in your software matrix.
    4) Taking the images you created + bootable recovery media (CD/DVD), and making recovery media. - feature has been already requested

    Preview pane

I'd like a preview pane so when you click a scheduled backup its properties are displayed.
The current mouse-over doesn't display for long enough. After having edited a schedule it doesn't display at all. o_O
It's important to be able to review this information before starting a backup.
The alternative is to go right through the wizard each time.

This could be implemented as a sliding pane under the 'Active tasks' pane, perhaps.
(I've slid my Active Tasks pane right to the top. The options it hides are all available elsewhere, although I'd prefer them all to be on the side bar)

Windows XP Embedded instead of Linux for boot CD

    Hello Acronis,

I like the Acronis TI bootable CD feature alot.

Unfortunately, I have had troubles with it on newer computers. I think the main problem is detecting hardware and installing appropriate drivers.

Perhaps Acronis could use Windows XP Embedded instead of Linux for its bootable CD. I am hoping Windows XP Embedded might have better driver support and hardware detection. I am not positive, but I think it could also use Windows XP drivers provided by the manufacture.

Windows XP is probably more expensive, but it might be worth it... Something like Bart PE, but out of the box.

    HTH,
    Keller Beyer
