    Hi!

I understand that Acronis is doing some business, thats ok. Just wondering why the software developer wont give any COMMON STATEMENT about recent flaws particularly with ATI 9.0.

I hope all the Acronis mods are heard about MARKETING and building the BRAND.
You are losing it atm. Please wake up and please respond to numerous posts.

Admit it, there are SOME probs.

    Cheers,

    Technic

I have now started recommending Norton Ghost to colleagues, friends and internet forums. I paid for my version of Acronis 9 when it first came out. Their behaviour with this latest release has definitely backfired upon them.

In a year or two's time when it will be Norton Ghost 11 vs Acronis 10 - there's a good chance Ghost will be well in front. People don't care which program is released first. They want a functional program that does what it is meant to do WITHOUT PROBLEMS and WHEN IT IS RELEASED. Acronis TI 8 was working... Acronis 7 was working. So why is Acronis 9 being a program I wouldn't download now even if it was freeware on www.download.com?!

As a program with a significant price attached to it - the company can afford to do better. I hope some people at least lose their jobs over this.

Out of curiosity, I'm sure at least one Acronis rep would have read this thread by now - yet no reply?!

Just a couple of short comments as a Mod and a TI user....

    • It is quite inappropriate to recommend the use of illegally obtained programs here and elsewhere. Regardless of you position on the latest release of TI, please refrain from taking the discusion in this direction. I'll gladly pull this and any other thread developing along these lines.
    • As multiple and somewhat long term licensed TI owner, I will note that similar issues have appeared at every major version release, although the road seems a little rockier than usual right now. It is not unique to Acronis, nor this product area. That is why I never immediately upgrade to a XX.0 version level on release unless I've been personally involved in the beta testing. There is nothing wrong with voicing complaints, raising problems and concerns, and trying to get these issues resolved as soon as feasible, but the quickest route to a global solution for all it to work the problem, not work-over the vendor and their support staff.
    • Offhand, I do not know the detailed Acronis license policies or serial key characteristics, but the current version 8 product is quite stable in my hands with both internal and USB based hard drives. My personal recommendation is to use this version level if problems are being experienced and if possible for the user.
Finally, this is the Acronis support area - let's keep the discussion centered on Acronis products. Competitive products may be readily discussed Software, Hardware and General Services forum
    • Gratuitous bumps are not appreciated and will be removed
Thanks in advance for keeping the discussion appropriate.

I would suggest that everybody reporting problems should state what system (cpu, chipset, ram etc) he/she is using. As I mentioned in different threads, I just found out that TI 9 b2271 runs on my wife's laptop (intel mobile celeron 1,13 GHz), seemingly w/o probs so far, but not on my AMD Athlon XP 3000 based system with VIA KT-880 chipset.
The mentioning of the hardware used may really be helpful to the developers - what hopefully will lead to less waiting time until all probs are fixed.

For those of you following or contributing to this thread, here is a copy of an email I recently sent to Acronis. You may have similar impressions:

I have used TI 7 and TI 8 without problems. I "upgraded" to TI 9 and have had nothing but problems and errors since and have yet to have a successful backup. I have read numerous reports by users of TI 9 and virtually no one is happy. Unfortunately, I trusted you (Acronis) in your marketing of TI 9 as an "upgrade" and did not read about the problems others were facing until I had already been divested of my $29.99. You have released a product that does not even approach Beta level of reliability. I would like a refund of my $29.99 without delay. I did not pay for the dubious opportunity to "invest" in Acronis; I paid for what I assumed, based on my prior trust of your company, to be a fully functional advancement to a previously excellent product. Please do NOT ask me to send my logs or Dump. I did not sign up for Beta testing and I have no intention of being further insulted by Acronis.

Regards and best wishes for a better staff of developers and an honest marketing strategy in the future,

And STILL no reply from anyone officially affiliated with Acronis (the outraged mod above really doesn't count). Not so much as a "sorry, bear with us, we know, it's unfortunate, working round the clock, here's some soothing music, what about those Jets, look at these goldfish...". Nada.

Well, I for one will take this lack of response to indicate disinterest in the problems we're seeing, and will vote with my feet. While I don't condone software piracy in any way, it's little surprise that it happens when officially purchased software isn't supported properly.

Acronis would do well to remember that this package is used to backup what to its user is critical data, and if it's flaky or unstable, confidence in it will disappear much more quickly than it grows, to the point where, suddenly, other software by the same supplier doesn't look quite so attractive.

If you really believe my comments reflect those of an outraged person, you're an extremely poor judge of posted content.

That said, you are quite correct. My comments should not be viewed as even remotely related to an official Acronis response. Those with problems wishing to resolve said problems should focus on certain issues. Those simply venting will focus on others. Both types of feedback are appropriate within the constraints imposed by the site Terms of Service, which will be observed.

Search the internet for information on TrueImage and any competitive software before making a purchasing decision. Just because Acronis has obviously made a very bad decision in releasing TrueImage 9 before it was adequately tested does not mean that the product TrueImage is 'obviously crappy software'.
Sure earlier versions had some problems working with specific hardware configurations (competitive programs don't have problems?). However, these were generally due to problems with that hardware rather than TrueImage. Substandard memory being a common cause. I have two machines, one a DELL which works extremely well with TrueImage 8. The other is a machine with an AMD CPU and an Asus A7V133 motherboard which gives intermittent 'corrupted image' errors'. I have not resolved this problem yet but it appears to be a deficiency with the motherboard rather than TrueImage although I have yet to confirm this. I'm hoping that experimenting with BIOS settings might solve the problem. In spite of this problem I would still recommend TrueImage.
Consider purchasing TrueImage 8 (or request a trial download of version 8 from Acronis support to confirm it works with your hardware)- it is excellent software. Acronis is obviously working hard to overcome the problems with version 9 - you will see from this forum that there have been a number of builds released in the last couple of weeks, each build resolving some of the issues. I'm sure that in a few weeks version 9 will be a viable upgrade from version 8.

    Thanks for the reply tachyon.

The fact is, i bought TI 9.0. I can not create backups with it. I cannot create even rescue CD-RW with. Purchased software is fully unoperational for me. :'(

That's exactly the reason I use TI 7.0 at the moment - for me, the 8.x versions too were not stable all the time. That's very sad - I started with 6.0 because I could make backups on external usb drives what was'nt possible at that time with ghost. I was satisfied with TI, that changed with the last update of 7.0 where my problems started. It has been a long time since, and I recently bought 9.0 - hoping all those problems being solved, just to find out that now TI is total useless for me. I never experienced this with other programs - I use a lot. OK, everybody nows that new versions usually have some new bugs while old ones disappeared, but I never had the problem, with no kind of software, that it was completely useless after an update. Again, that's sad. I do not know if I'll ever will have enough confidence again to pay Acronis in advance.

I know how you guys feel. It's a very disappointing situation.
I almost bought the upgrade but decided to wait a few days just to see if there were any problems. I never imagined there could be so many bugs.
I'll now be staying with TI 8 for the foreseeable future.

    Hello all,

We are really sorry for the inconveniences. We constantly inform our Development Team about problems with the latest version of Acronis True Image 9.0 and all of them will be fixed very quickly. I understand your discontent with this release, but we will try to solve all problems for this week.

    Thank you.

    Good deal, Irina.

    Suggestion to save time...

Why doesn't the "Developement Team" just read the Forum to see what the real issues are? It could be faster and more accurate.

First rule of expectation management - never (ever) make timescale promises unless you can guarantee them. All that happens is that you raise peoples' hopes for no good reason. If people do now believe that everything will be fine and dandy by Friday (was that Friday morning or afternoon by the way, if it is afternoon then that really means next week) and it isn't then you will be in a worse state than if you hadn't said anything.

If there was ever one field of customer relations that this situation is particularly applicable to, it is the delivery of software products.

I hope noone is expecting this to all be fixed by Friday morning, because it wont be imho.

Version x.0 of any software is often a risky step into bugs that didn't show up in beta or gamma. I know many folks that simply won't buy a version x.0 of anything simply to avoid those risks.

I swtiched to TI after getting fed up with the then new non-DOS version of Norton Ghost and more so, what I found to be the awful service from Symantec. Here was some great advice I received from a phone drone: "RAID? Symantec never said Ghost could handle RAID. You should remove the RAID array from your machine if you want to use Norton Ghost".

At least we have these forums. I genreally find that, whre they are available, user forums are a faster way to get better help than phone drone service centers.

Folks should get what they like and find works best on their equipment and with their other software. However, I doubt that Symantec, of all the software companies out there, has suddenly gotten a corner on bug-free software (such is Symantec's infamy). If it works now, the next upgrade will bring a new set of bugs, whether Norton or TI, or whatever. And by the time, the version is polished; it will be time for an upgrade to come out and the bug swatting starts all over again. Has anything been less true of software in general in the last ten years?

    2 cents,
    sh
