Where I work we have been using true image to backup to another computer hard drive on the network and it has worked great. Yesterday I plugged in a external hd drive and did a back up to it with no problems.

Then when I went to explore the new image on the usb drive, nothing shows up. I can browse to backup images on the internal HD but can't see anything on the usb HD. Then when I went to try to schedule another backup, when I get to the part where I browse to the destination drive and I go to the new USB drive it tells that I have entered and invalid file format?

If I use a destination on the internal hard disk it works? It was on a server that I didn't want to re-boot at the time but maybe that is all it needs?

Just thought I would check if maybe it is something simple and common?

    thanks,
    -George

    Hi George,

So what changed between the first backup to the USB drive that "worked" and the second attempt which gave the errror message?

Did you use the same steps for both backups?

Are you using the same location (drive and folder name, if any) for the second backup attempt.

Can you see the first backup to the USB drive in Windows Explorer?

I think I changed the volume or drive name. I first plugged in the usb drive and did a backup that worked. I think I then changed the drive name from the default drive from something like "new drive" or "new volume" and changed it to "backup" so that "backup (G:)" shows up in my computer. I had a couple scheduled tasks and I edited them so they would point to the usb drive instead of my backup computer and didn't get an error but now I do if I edit and try to send to the usb drive. I can see the backup files in windows explorer and I just saved to the ext drive without putting it in a folder on that drive.

It usually enters the path for me to the destination drive after I browse to what ever folder so something must be wrong with the path.

When I first tried the remote agent and would browse to a computer to run a task it would add a .com behind the computer name which would cause an error. I removed the .com and then it works. So I thought maybe something was being added?

Should I do anything to the usb hard drive? I formatted them at home and then took them to work and plugged them in to another computer if that makes a difference.

So should I delete the current partitions on the ext and maybe re-create & reformat & re-boot and see if that works?

    thanks,
    -George

I was having a problem backing up to the usb drive but after I created a folder on the new drive and saved the backup to the folder then it all worked fine.

Then I setup a second usb hard drive with the same label and same folder. The hard drive is the exact same model as the first I am using and backed up to that fine. Now when I unplug the usb drive and plug the other in, I cannot save to same backup folder as before. It will only now backup to one drive but not the other.

How do I prep the 2 usb drives so they will both be interchangeable?

    thanks
    -George
