Well, isn't this specialo_O That is not right! These stores are listed on the Acronis web page.

    >We regret to inform you that we can provide a free upgrade only for customers who purchased Acronis True Image 8.0 from Acronis online store. Please contact CompUSA in order to solve the issue.

The only other observation I have is that NewEgg sells a full (not the upgrade) version of TI for the same price that Acronis charges me to upgrade between versions. Guess what I'll do when TI 9.0 becomes available through NewEgg?

And my TI8 IS the full box that I got at CompUSA!

So, where is the "bargain" if Newegg will let us get any version for <$30, what is so special about being a loyal Customer?

    That's not right.
Anyone that registered TI8 within the last 30 days should be entitled to a free TI9 upgrade.
They have that information on their servers right now.

I even said I would scan my receipt. Where do they give the 30 day policy and does it state that it is for Acronis purchased products only? Besides, just how many free upgrades do they think they are saving? I bet they cause more ill will.

I agree with you all that this is BS. If I were you, I'd start posting on as many different forums that you can. Neowin forums would be a good place to start. Acronis has become a company that does not listen to their customers and now tries to screw them over.

I purchased at NewEgg two weeks ago. I, too, was just told I do not qualify for the "free" upgrade for "anyone" who purchased within 30 of the new version.

How cheap is that! So, does Acronis think I'll run right out and get the upgrade? Ah, no. Do you think I'll ever buy from these cheapskates again? Ah, no.

    Nice business practice.

In a recent post were someone mentioned wanting to by 8.0 at Fry's for $24.99, and asking about the upgrade policy - here is their response -

    Hello everyone,

Thank you for your interest in Acronis Disk Backup Software.

With regards to your questions, our upgrade policy is to provide free upgrades to (a) customers who purchased the software 30 days prior to the release of a new version, and/or (b) customers who have purchased software maintenance or a site license that includes software maintenance. We realize that the 30 day cut-off appears to be arbitrary, but it is keeping with the procedures of other established software companies. If we had a 90 day cut-off, somebody who purchased the product 91 days before hand who would ask us to upgrade or that s/he would not have bought the product had they known to wait just one more day. At some point we have to draw a line and move on to working on the next version.

Please also note that unfortunately I can not provide you with any information on pricing for the upcoming release (including the price for upgrade to version 9.0).

If you have any further questions please feel free to ask.

    Thank you.

based on the info in that post, I went out and bought 8.0 at Frys 2 days ago - I haven't even installed it. How can they justify not giving me a free upgrade?

Nowhere in that post does it say it has to be purchased from them, just purchased within the 30 days prior.
They have some explaining to do once they're ready to reply to a mess of posts. :doubt:

    Another unhappy camper here too..

I purchased two copies of TI8 from Neweqq on 9/15. Received an email
from Acronis on the 20th about the $29 upgrade for my previous versions.

I saw the '30' day free update and thought Great ! ..Sent an email to Acronis but have not received a reply. Now reading this forum it appears I'm SOL too.

Currently I own 5 copies of TI and planned on another 5 before the end of the year .. Maybe time to go back to Ghost .

I also did the Fry's deal, but had CompUSA match it so I did not have to drive so far. My TI8 is still unopened. I do not see where they say that it needs to be purchased at the Acronis store only. In fact, when I bought mine, TI9 was not even on the web site yet (last Sunday).

I bet their retail outlets would like to know their TI8 inventory is now worthless...and TI8 will soon no longet have updates!

Giving us this "downloadable" upgrade will cost them little or nothing. Not giving it to us will cost them a lot MORE!

Duplicate post removed from this thread - posting and reposting the same post/issue all over the forum only confuses things.

Please bear with me, as I'm a new user and this is my first time here.

I bought TI8 at CompUSA on 9/15 AFTER checking for a new version on their website. There was no version 9 then. I just installed today (9/22) and found I could upgrade to version 9 for $29.99.

From what I've read above, it seems Acronis doesn't want to give us a free upgrade even though it was bought within 30 days of the new release.

Is this their final word? Whom do we need to talk with? This seems totally unfair.

    Very disappointed/unhappy new customer.

As does the lack of any input whatsoever from Acronis concerning this issue.

Perhaps so, but then as a Wilders global moderator I am here to keep order in all of Wilders. We do not allow duplicate postings in any sections of the Wilders Security Forums.
