i'm going to buy nod32
i have a question
is better nod32 or kasperksy about the virus /trojan and malware detection?
i know the score about virus bulletin , but really who is better?

 

For known malware it's KAV (still). But for new unknown malware NOD32 has prowen many times that it's supperior in it's field. Also according to latest AV-Comparatives they improved it much even in known malware area.
So i'd certanly go with NOD32,especially if you're using mail service that is not GMail. Basically you can't miss if you get yourself NOD32.

Well i'm on NOD32 for sometime now (i still like avast! but they somehow lack that detection,especially since i have a little sister which uses mIRC from time to time and browse webpages wherever she likes,beyond my control). I do use avast! on my secondary machine though.
I still track avast! developement,actively submit them samples, beta test their versions and help on their support forums,but thats the way it is. NOD32 really improved incredibly in last few months.
I think latest On-Demand and Proactive tests on AV-Coparatives speak for themself (for NOD32). Although i really miss flexible avast! Chest (Quarantine) to handle suspicious and infected samples

 

and what's about the resourse of nod32
about ram

 

Forget about Task Manager numbers. On average NOD32 takes up 10MB of memory. Sometimes less, sometimes more. It's fast anyway so this doesn't really matter much.

about Amon , media -- Network


i can setup to controll media , local disk and diskette
but i did not understand about network , i read the help file but i didn't understand the meaning of network

 

Scans the files accessed on remote computers in local network.
ESET guys can explain you in details.

 

With "network" enabled, AMON will scan files on network drives (e.g. if you try to open eicar.com located on another pc in LAN, AMON will detect and block it).

KAV has the bigger database, making it better (overall) for known malware, but NOD32 is much better at detecting malware that's still unknown. NOD32 also has a track record for being the best at detecting ITW malware, where KAV tends to be the best at picking up zoo malware. ITW and unknown malware are the most important to me, which is why I have no plans to switch from NOD32. For the times I'm feeling uneasy, I can always fire up my AT for protection that's probably equal to KAV (maybe even greater with how ATs work with memory scanning and all), but the nice thing is that I can turn it off.

 

Why are you changing from Avast?

 

Well avast! isn't that bad either imo. If there is no malware it will certanly not catch it right? But anything can miss stuff. There is many cases where avast! detects and NOD32 doesn't or vice versa. But still,not has some decent advantage with good engine and AH over almost only signature based avast!.

Yes it scans all files.

 

Using nod32 about 3 years now and never changed to another scanner, for me it's the best and never had any problems.
And there is a trial version, so why ask all the questions? just try it yourself.

 

FWIW, over the last year or so, I have personally tested/ran nearly a dozen different AV's on various Windows machines. After the dust settled, NOD32 was one of the few I was impressed with. It tests well in published objective tests, it goes about it's business without slowing down the PC, and once you learn how to use the interface, it really lends itself to being tweaked to a user's specific likes and dislikes.

And nothing speaks louder than money... I just bought 7 more licenses for where I work.

 

RejZoR has given a prety good overview of Kaspersky and NOD, and how NOD has closed the gap to Kaspersky with regard to detection of ZOO samples.

One area where Kaspersky is still head and shoulders above the competition is where it comes to adding detection for new known viruses. On average Kaspersky will have detection added to the database within 20 minutes of the outbreak, which is significantly shorter than other companies.

That said though, NOD has the best Heuristics which will help to catch viruses before it has been added to the database.

I would recommend trying both NOD and Kaspersky before making your mind up. That way you can see which runs better on your system.

Your system will have maximum protection with either solution.

 

YES right but the kaspersky real time engine is very slow

 

The latest KAV pre-beta is much faster and uses less RAM (less than NOD). It can also be made even faster by only scanning new and changed files (optional).

You might want to try the latest pre-beta since it is pretty stable even though it is a pre-beta.

As mentioned in my previous message though, I would try both KAV & NOD and pick which one suits you.

It's pretty fast, but you'd have to try it out for yourself since different systems react differently to the various AV's.

If you've paid for NOD, then stay with it. If not, then uninstall NOD when the trial period ends and try out the other one.

 

I know you have been very supportive of Avast! for awhile now and was wondering why you would move to running nod now just because of some higher test results this past review? You know that those tests are what they are and even the disclaimer tells not to judge solely on detection rates. I am not bashing or anything but merely curious about your decision. In my small experience between the two, Avast! has definately shown better web site based malware detection for me which I why I decided on Avast! in the end. Also as you mentioned the functionality and layout of Avat! interface is clearly superior. If I was to move from Avast! to another AV it would be KAV not nod for best detection rates of all types of threats. I have my Avast! Pro license good till next November and the KAV web site says that x64 support will be available in the upcoming versions. If I were to move due to seeking a higher test results product then I may consider the new KAV that comes out then. But still just curious about your decision.
