Their antivirus program -not its engine- is filled by bugs,

(no configuration available) for realtime protector in Windows NT based operation systems!, but available in w9x!.

The realtime protector actually have obsessive compulsive disorder, when a virus found it 'll display a massege 10 times!. :)

I remember when their AV database exceed 100000 sig, the numbers overwrote some text in the main form of application. :)

    :)

BTW, My BitDefender Prof Pro v9, detects More than 205000 MW. same as my F-Prot AV.

    1. While this is annoying, there really doesn't need to be much configuration of the real time protector (but I agree that there should be some). A lot of options in this section indicate a bloated program.

    2. It lists the file every time it is accessed. Windows accesses the file several times when F-Prot denies access to it. Nothing wrong here.

    3. It overwrote one or two characters, and was fixed in the next build. This was just a minor visual glitch that is really no big deal. Other applications have had more major visual issues when signatures exceded a certain number. Norton AntiVirus, for example, rolled the count all the way back to 0 one time. They fixed it, but it didn't hurt anything.

They have "Over 200.000 viruses and other malicious programs detected" but doesn't have the best detection rate, so...

F Prot 4 will probably follow the release of F Prot 3.16d and e and maybe f. Many have been waiting a long-long time for the version 4 release... :D

    Right, but..

    What about other AV programs?

.. Rule is : (deny access) to the infected file and show a single message, and don't let the OS to access this file again.

I think the total number of malware detected in database has "nothing to do" with the ability of AV in the real world, it's probably a marketing trick and marketing people always love it.

Agreed, FProt is quite buggy as a product. Their advances in their program seems to be at the pace of the building of the great pyramids. Much like DrWeb's, but at least DrWeb is stable and seemingly bug free.

According to you every Antivirus program is buggy but the one you been using (at that moment). First, you rave then you trash. I mean come on… What kind of methodology is that? o_O

Regarding F-Prot: This is not a bug but a design feature. DrWeb works in the same way. There are many threads here about the spiderNT under NT systems.

F-Prot is really not that buggy. It's just without any real inspiration. Very limited AV in all areas. But many like that. And i also agree that their developement is very very very sloooooooow.

New version of F-Prot comes out every 2-3 months. No major changes to GUI though. But they keep engine up to date.

Yeah, but engine is just fine. GUI is the one that i don't like. From functional perspective. I mean On-Access detection dialogs don't have any options on what do do with infected file. It just says you should do full system scan in order to clean it. Ugh!? o_O This is probably main and biggest drawback of F-Prot. And lack of Quarantine. Maybe few more settings, but ok...

I believe they pushed the release date back for some unknown reason to us. Command 5 was never released either. It was advertised at Command (beta stage) home page 2-3 years ago. ;)

Maybe you should use cool moderator powers and tell me which AV I raved about, then trashed as buggy? Or are you just a FProt fan that is mildly offended? (i'm accutely aware people are overly personal about their AV's for some reason, not so much about underwear brands though, if I said something bad about Fruit of the Loom, would you get angry?)

The only AV's i've used in recent memory are VBA32 and DrWeb, and I think both are quite good and stable.. I Can't recall actually "Raving" about anything other than those two, and i've never trashed either of them - and in fact they are all I use on my machines anymore. I suspect you might have just been angry, and were posting off the cuff. At the very least, allegations such as these, should be followed up by sufficient evidence or they will be summarily discounted as hyperbole.

Maybe you should check your threads under this and your old "infamous" screen name.

I am a fan of many different AVs. BTW,personally I prefer Hanes. My wife thinks its sexier then Fruit of the Loom.

I'll refresh you memory: NOD32, Arcavir, AVK, avast!....All under different name. But let’s not start a spitting contest.

I have seen F-Prot discussed in depth on this forum but rarely has anyone claimed its buggy. Basic yes, not very configurable true, but at least in my case its definitely not been buggy. I run it on three pc's in my home and have not had a single problem. I also have licenses for NAV 2005, Command AV, and Extendia AVK. F-Prot by far has been the least buggy and lightest on resources of any of them.
