Actually, the only software that made my system to crash is the latest version of SSM when I used it together w/ kerio 4.2. I didn’t expect it that way… maybe different experiences w/ different people w/ their machines. How about yours? :'(

a few scenarios that caused problems with me:

    1. enabling "watch thread injection" in LnS on an thlon 64 computer. this causes a BSOD. more info at this thread

    2. safexp and gamexp. i dont know which setting causes it but after using one or both of these utilities, i kept getting errors upon entering safe mode. not a biggie but safe mode is nice for troubleshooting and running ur AV or disk defragmenter.

    3. using sandboxie on IE if u installed foxie. this gives out errors and eventually closes when u try creating a new tab.

    4. enabling the nvidia firewall and running a p2p program (emule was the one i used) simulataneously. this eventaully leads to a BSOD.

ZoneAlarm PRO 6.0 made my system crash many times..and running IObit Advanced Window Care screwed up my Disk Cleanup utility, so I had to format.

The earlier version of RegDefend gave me some problems. I tried to install ZoneAlarm 6 but just before it finished installing it said that I did not have authority to install it. So ZA was not fully installed, it could not be fully uninstalled either. What a mess.

Out of all the software installed on my computer it would have to be Spy Sweeper. It's a good spyware remover but mine is full of small bugs. It's not crashing my whole computer but it starts up slow and delays my computer from turning off sometimes and when I click on it in the tray it also opens my isp status.

had a few early teething problems finding software that behaves itself.

zonealarm 6 free - decided to start blocking my internet access (even when it was switched off) - uninstalled

netveda rebooted my computer when i started firefox - uninstalled

ashampoo winoptimiser just disappeared while doing a scan (on more than one occasion) - uninstalled

ewido - system froze after running scan - uninstalled

windows cd burner (made by Roxio i believe) - biggest pile of c**p i've ever seen - unbelievable! that it was included in the operating system - everytime i tried to burn a cd it just said error without doing a thing. replaced it with Nero - worked first time.

at the moment i have found enough security software that works to resist trying any more.

these days i am much more circumspect about trying software out on my machine - i've read too many threads where software installed trashed a poster's computer.

last bad surprise for me was, wanted to try Armor2net firewall, was looking good, especially its "generic intrusion detection" features. Did install it...and lsass.exe error, reboot in 45 secs, etc-etc  - did that several times, and so was removed, without a way to test it ( the only FEW times Windows was able to log in, the prog was "empty", nothing working ) :D !

Norton Internet Security, was using 2004 till last month: this program simply forget to load at start-up, sometimes. Appart from that, was working good and efficient ( heh, not a popular statement here, I know :D )

Panda Internet Security 2005 caused me the most trouble. Slowed my boot up and internet connection down to crawl. Then when I tried to uninstall it, I couldn't get it to uninstall completely. I had to contact Panda phone tech support, I didn't want e-mail them and have to wait several days for an answer. The tech send me uninstall instructions to remove it. Panda will never touch my computer again.
