I just remembered a windows gimmick and thought I'd pass it on before I forget again. If you want to fit more thumbnails on the screen just hold down the shift key while changing the file view to thumbnails, then it will not print the names, which leaves more room for more thumbnails.

P.S. Marja, I remember your saying that it was satisfying in some way to actually sign your digital creations. I just wanted to see I it would have the same effect on me, and it really did. I'm considering signing all of my works from now on!

Brad, by the way, the comment you made about file size did register with me after all. The following is an example of something about as large as I can make it using 7/12 for compression, which is a clearly visible loss of quality. I normally work on these pictures at about 1000 pixels in width. That way I can see the whole thing without scroll bars.***The problem, which I am sure you have encountered is that what looks good at 1000px will sometimes completely lack detail at, say 300 px. Ironically, I find it easy to make an enlargement look good than a shrunkun one look good. This is because nothing is wrong with the shrunken one. You got me thinking about compression loss, and I did an experiment that supprised me quite a bit. I might post it later.

Back to this picture. The answer would be I do and I don't have a larger one. I have a couple larger sizes, but I went thru so much editing to try to make the small one look good, that the large one does not look very similar at all. It obviously makes more sense to work on pictures at a size large enough to be useful. What happens is that I don't anticipate them turning out good. When they do, then I wish I had made it bigger. Most of them I can enlarge, except ones like this where the detail size does not have a similar effect at the different sizes. In general a photo can be made to look just as good at 200%. Something that is not a photo and does not have letter and number characters or lots of staight lines I feel can be made much larger than that. I used to use some of them for wallpaper, but I don't do that much anymore. Now I express my creativity through Icon-Art! So the condensed answer to your original question is: kind of.

***Does anyone know why a wheelmouse sometimes scrolls horizontal (bad) and sometimes verticle (good).

Marja, another question. Not that I expect an answer. Did you mean that your Iron Butterfly started out as a picture of a real choker? If not, how did you do the pink background? If so, I imagine it is not very comfortable to wear.

Since I'm here anyway, this is my compression experiment. I compressed this 14 times in a row at a 10/12 setting. I expected a much worse result. It is barely different form the original.

    Hey Hands! Or Mac! :)

Naaw that butterfly grew up to be a choker, that's it's cocoon in the background! :D

I really like your space pic above!! It's soo different, so you should sign your pics, they are all one of a kind!

    Happy Creating!

    Bigbuck, :)

Is it OK to use these images as " avatars " .... or are they for viewing only ? I especially like " maug " the fire breathing dragon !!

I'm currently using the avatar that Uguel707 designed for me .... but a change once in a while would be nice.

Well, all except the lightning, I made for specific people at another forum. Maug is actually Smaug (the dragon is the 'S'!). She is using it at Graphics Playground and Carma I believe. I'm happy to do something similar (or different) for you, you just might have to give me some ideas to start with. .......Also bear in mind the 110x110 avatars above allow a little more than the 60x60 that we have here at Wilders.
    Cheers,
    Brad.

    Hey Bigbuck, :)

Thanks for responding .... and as well for the offer of an avatar design !!

I must warn you when it comes to creativity my expertise is centered on " guitar playing " and not graphic art. As I believe I told Uguel .... ( as she was doing my Les Paul ) when it comes to art or drawing, I'm best left alone with my " stickmen " capabilities. Since we already have a member here at Wilders with a dragon avatar maybe something else would be more appropriate. I'm in the mood for something that points to the " dark side ".

Can I think about it .... and would you prefer I post here or by P/M as I did with Uguel ?

    Take it easy,
    HR

Well done bigbuck! :) ...all those avatars look real good and also
the new one you made for Hard Rocker. Hmm...I did not create
many new images lately, I've been biking and doing a bit of
everything and watched the news just like everyone else has after
Louisiana and Mississippi were stricken by Katrina. :(
With that tragedy going on, drawing did not appeal to me nor sitting a my computer... :'(
I was not able to sleep much....I kept awaking all the time...
I am so glad that things are improving now....God bless all Louisiana and Mississippi residents and those who are in temporary shelters awaiting for a better future and please help us to help them with the best of our compassion, generosity and respect that they deserve. Bless and support the volunteers and all those who came and are still coming to their rescue.

If you guys are ready, I was thinking of giving the new theme
for the next following 2 weeks, I thought of a theme on hope.
So we will post anything pertaining to that theme for the next 2 weeks
    or until September 26.

    ....mum was Cajun.

    Hi Uguel

    Better to think about hope!

(I changed the hand slightly to make it a bit smaller and glassier. I started out trying to make a galactic space hand, rushing to help those and need. It did not work out, so now you just have to imagine what it is)

Hi HandsOff!......right, hope is less perturbing than worries :doubt:
The hand and the green colour are very appropriate for our theme. :)

    Here's mine ....I was quoting Aristotle ;)
