Xp will manage the ram pretty efficently all by it's self. And In my shop I have seem ram corrupted from useing ram defragers.

  6. Hi, in the years I have used XP, I have seen that is a need to use a ram defragger, so that I use Rampage ( the author of this program says "I don't think there is much point running RAMpage on these systems (XP)" , but in my experience it is very useful, three years before, when I didn´t use a ram defragger, my system usually freezed, not afeter I started to use this one, in fact there are many programs of this kind, and are usefull.

Software RAM utilities create more problems than solve, best utility for RAM recovery is from MS itself called CLEARMEM, it has been there since NT days, do a Google and you will find many links to it,this is the only one which works and does not create any problems.

    Thanks Arup
is this the last version (4.3Kb)

    http://img355.imageshack.us/img355/1507/flush0hh.jpg

It causes severe application execution delay and internet pages load delay as well. after using it it took 7sec(usually 2sec) for M$ paint to open. and 12 sec for wilder's forum to load(usually 3sec).

it creates 3 flush files. see pic

    hadi,

This is the one, are you using it on XP or 2K? It works fine on both provided there are no other ram utilities in your system and also it is important to let MS manage your paging file instead of manual setup. MS tech still recommends this program so it is fully safe. The last version is 5.0.2134.1 and it is dated Oct 1999 and the size is 9.26kb.

    Hi Arup
I have never ever used a ram utility. I don't like them.but this one is very small and doesn't install any thing.( I put it in system32 and access it thruogh start>run>clearmem. as recommended)however, after running it I noticed a huge drop down in apps speed and pages loadup this occurs for shortwhile only. although in my case it didn't free any ram.

according to cmd pic in my previous post, the version is 1.17x dated 1993 not 1999. after unzipping, yes its size 9.92Kb. is this the one. please. thanks

I've been trialling a file (not ram) defragmenter called VoptXP from http://www.vopt.com/ Just by opening this program (not running it) my available memory increases, sometimes by more than 100mb, and it does this without sending data to the page file. It does reduce the size of the System Cache by a "relatively" small amount.

Programs remain responsive i.e. there is no delay at all in resuming what I was doing. I'll try a couple of Task Manager screenshots so you can see what's what.

This is before opening VoptXP :

What matters is the amount of memory used compared to the amount of actual RAM on your system - if usage exceeds RAM then paging will happen (slowing your system) no matter what memory management is in place.

According to your screenshots, VoptXP is consuming an extra 3MB.

Anyone considering a "RAM optimizer" should check this Memory Optimization Hoax article (if they can get past the advertising).

Thanks Paranoid2000. I should have clarified that the second screenshot was taken after opening, and then closing, VoptXP.

Normally, when you run a memory optimizer, data is sent from ram to the page file and the peak value for the page file shown under Commit Charge would show a very high figure. Also, programs are slower to respond initially as their data is no longer in ram.

Neither of these things appear to happen and yet the amount of available ram, as shown in the screenshot, is higher.

Just my observations when using this program.

ram is so cheep they are giving it away with cornflakes - absolutely no excuse not to treat yourself to a nice juicy stick of 512 meg.
