Referrer block ?

Hi

I'm just trying out lns on various firewall 'test' sites and on pcflank.com it fails the browser test because it does not block 'referrer' information.

Can I set up lns to stop this information or is there a rule for it ?

Sorry LnS can't block that information,but I think TPF and Kerio can.But after 7 years of looking for a good firewall LnS beats them all![IMO]

I always believed it is a job of the browser to offer security to this aspect, whatever I like to believe, seems developers don’t or we would have seen some implementation by now. Therefore, use of good webfiltering system to secure browser referrers, and there are some very popular freeware to-do this task.

Thanks for that, I too think it's a browser 'problem' I just asked because the 'test' I mentioned pointed the finger at firewalls !

Andyslogos......I suggest using firefox browser there is a extension called RefControl which will block Referrer's. Firefox in my opinion is much more secure and offers much more than IE

 

The referrer is a major privacy concern and I have had mine blocked for ages, using ZoneAlarm Pro. If any sites complain, which btw only 3 have, i simply exclude them from that filtering using the 'sites' tab. Recently however, ZoneAlarm has begun to annoy me with its resource eating and its 'all-in-one' attitude in the latest releases, incorporating a 'system level firewall' which is basically similar to 'Process Guard' and an antivirus, (don'r want it, already have a standalone one). Soo, in my search for a new firewall I found LnS and have become convinced that it is the best out there right now. However, it does NOT offer the option to block referrers and I find it disappointing that this is being shrugged off by the developers. While I know there ARE third party products that can take care of this (ie. proxomitron or proxy stopper) I would rather see it integrated into the firewall itself so I would not have the 'load' of one more application running on my system. The whole point of application filtering in a firewall is to preserve privacy by preventing information leakage from installed programs. In this respect I believe that referrer blocking is also a very relevant and important privacy feature.

 

I disagree. But I know you are not interested why.

But in any case, you can turn off referrers in firefox without an extra program. Or you can use extensions for even more control.
