Snowbound you said it perfectly. Search and Rescue teams should have been dispatched as soon as they possible could have to reach the scene and begin the search for stranded or disabled people.

Also, the President was coming back form yet another vacation where he probably was not watching the news, or surfing the internet to read articles/ hear stories of the devastation that was taking place.

Even with that said, its unbelievable that it took him so long to understand whats happened.

I hope that things turn out much, much better down there, and that people can go back to their lives as soon as possible.

Hey people, we all know there is plenty of blame to go around but us gripping about it and pointing it out sure isn't helping anyone caught in the aftermath of this horrible disaster. Everybody needs to contact whatever aid agency you wish to and send some cash to these poor helpless people there. :'(

You're very right, every little bit counts. A dollar still contributes something to this. Consider possibly more, but still, everything counts here. Many states have already raised an extreme amount of money, and individual organizations have also contributed large sums of money.

You know if everyone in the US would just contribute $1.00, that would be at least $286,000,000.00. And that is with a population of 286,000,000 in 2000.

Although the calls from our Prime Minister to President Bush have been basically ignored by the administration on this issue, we certainly want to help our good neighbors to the south in any way we can,

    Exactly, BB!

How about donating lunch at McDonald's-(roughly $5.00 US)-for 1 day?

How about donating 1/4 of the price of your favorite AV? (about $10 US) as I challenged the posters here at this board in this thread:

    HERE

If every member of this board donated $10--we would raise ~$250,000 US--just from Wilders! ;)

Funny none of the CNN types have never mentioned worthy News such as that. There's really no need to find a link....because in that link you posted earlier....the Bush Administration's Sec. of State thanked Canada for their offer of assistance :doubt:

This is just my personal opinion. The Coast guard and National Guard are trying their best BUT FEMA and the leadership get a GOOSE EGG in their response to this disaster. They got to get out of their trailers giving their soundbites and start doing something.

It appears that it is only just today that they got satellite phones to establish communications. Just saw this on MSNBC. Total disorganization.

The government response has to be much better next time. My guess is that after the Gulf area gets rebuilt, they will have state of the art communications and disaster response equipment.

Over the next several years this storm will cause a big discussion on a lot of issues that were exposed by this tragedy.

Well, from all i've seen and heard the last few days, calls were made and our Prime Minister was told "thanks but we can handle it"....

    A baffling answer for sure....

This is nothing new for us here but will not be discussed as it is a TOS violation.

Obviously we would go ahead and help anyway no matter what the administration said.

Politics needs to be put aside when these types of situations happen.

I see tonight the mayor of New Orleans went on a tyrade yesterday. Good for him., there are a lot of questions that need answers....

Hey Snowbound, if this is true (the thanks but we can handle it) then the situation seems to be handling them  instead of the other way around. What is the USA afraid of anyway. It is Canada offering help for pete sake. Think about it your house burns down and your next door neighbor offers you some clothes, drink, food and the use of their phone. Oh no thanks I would rather risk death from exposure or famine. o_O :(

Say thanks and take it. :)

I think Strarrob has got it right...FEMA :p

"Four days after Katrina killed hundreds if not thousands, Republicans joined Democrats in wondering why it was taking so long to relieve the misery of so many people living in squalor without the necessities of life.

'If we can't respond faster than this to an event we saw coming across the Gulf for days, then why do we think we're prepared to respond to a nuclear or biological attack?' asked former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, a Republican.

Republican Gov. Mitt Romney of Massachusetts called the government's response 'an embarrassment.'"

Let's focus on the people in need at this stage rather than politics.

It is not politics. Both sides agree more needs to be done. I believe this also. I have friends that live in that area of the country...lots of friends. I am not sure if i'll hear from some of them again. I used to live in Loiusiana. I love the place. The disaster is personal for me. Much of the places that people see on the TV screen, i walked through and lived through. I cried last night.....I miss the things that were lost. It could have been me....At one point in time I considered living in New Orleans.........that could be me wandering around the convention center.
